Engagement Party?

 My mom wants to host an engagement party. I was like great, but she told she wants to have it next February (I have been engaged for 3 months). I think that is too late, right? When are you supposed to have an engagement party (if you decide to have one)?

Also, she thinks it is okay to invite people to the party that I don't plan on inviting to the wedding. I told her that those people would expect to come to the wedding. We can't do that.

I agree with you on both topics.  I think having an engagement party almost one year after you get engaged is kind of strange - when is your wedding? 

I agree also that anyone invited to the e-party should be invited to the wedding.  Otherwise, they will wonder why they were included on that party (of course they'll think you were being greedy about gifts) and not the wedding.

i also agree with u the e party from what i read before my cousin gave us ours was supposed to be done at 6 months after engagement.  i was gonna copy you on some of the things i read but at the moment i can't find the articles but i will as soon as i do.

My wedding is 8/12/2011.
My cousin got married this past Friday and they had an e-party one month before. It was strange.

Thanks mzpassion. We got engaged SuperBowl Sunday, so I suggest we do the e-party when the season starts (I'm a football geek). A sports themed party.

When should you hold your engagement party?
For those with especially long engagements, engagement parties are held one to three months after the engagement, and/or about a year before the wedding. For others it can be held any time more than six months before the wedding.
Who should be invited to your engagement party?
You'll definitely want to invite your two families so they can get to know one another. It's bad etiquette to invite anyone other than those who will definitely be invited to the wedding, so it's probably best to limit the guest list to those very close to you. Typically, guests who would have to travel are not invited, as you will already be asking them to travel for the wedding. (The exception to this rule would be the parents of the bride or groom).

that would be really nice!!  and your getting married the day before me!!  yay for August 2011!!  i kinda wish my cousin would have waiting a lil longer to do ours cause i felt it was kinda rushed but we did have a ball!!  so i can't complain!!

My parents are throwing us an Engagement Luau this weekend!!  YAY!!! And we are getting married on June 25th 2011. We got engaged on Christmas 2009. We are only inviting close family and the wedding party.

I agree waiting so late for an Engagement party is a bit strange and it's a little too late.
When I got engaged last August my mom threw a party the next day. For one a lot of my family hadn't met my fiance yet so the oppurtunity was perfect, that woman seriously threw together a party in about 6 hours.
