Hair trouble

So this doesn't have much to do with weddings... unless this problem continues through to the wedding date, which would be devastating! Until then, we can just call it s funny situation.
I have really curly/frizzy hair-- tight ringlets, in fact [I'm half black, half white with hair that tends to favor the black side of me].
The other week my friend and I took a normal flat iron and straightened my hair for the first time in 8 months. After we cut off some breakage, it looked fantastic! Straight hair!
But then when I washed it I was surprised to find nearly half of my hair decided it would remain kind of straight, the rest back to tight little ringlets. The next day I washed it again... no change. I have now washed it 5 times yet the front strands of hair are pretty straight and the back is very curly. it looks very, very odd. Not cute. I have to wear my hair in a ponytail, otherwise I look crazy.
I asked someone and they suggested it might be hormonal... but no, I am not pregnant and I am too old to be going through puberty. Looking for other possibilities.

Does anyone know why/how this happened? I admit it is in interesting phenomenon.
Does anyone know how to fix it? As much as I liked having straight hair, my hair needs to be either all straight or all curly... this looks like a mess.

My hair is naturally curly, but I have it blow dried straight.  Your hair tends to get trained after you do it, so it won't go back automatically.  Give it a few days/weeks and it should go back.

I'm also 1/2 black, 1/2 white and beauticians tell me  my hair is the most difficult to do-or at least to remain in one style.  My hair appears to be soft but DH knows it's one big afro when I brush it out at night. Whenever I've tried to straighten my hair (flat iron or otherwise) it ends up 1/2 straight and 1/2 wavy.  Any nice curly style eventually frizzes up. I am going to try using some of those Carol's Daughters products that everyone is recommending.

think of your hair as an egg. when you put high heat on your hair, it changes it permanently. When you fry an egg it stays fried. The only thing you did was train your
hair to stay straight. My advice... either keep straightening it or just grow it out til you can cut the straightened part off.

I agree with the pp that it will eventually revert back.  In the meantime you may want to try to use Kinky Curly Curl Creme (you can buy it  from Whole Foods) and that should help bring the natural curl back as well.  I have heard of this before and everyone says their hair has gone back to normal.  Good luck!

more than likely the heat probably over processed the hair...meaning..it will be awhile before it goes back to normal...

first of all where did you get your pic? I want one!!!

I also change my hair from straight to curly. When I decide to wear it straight, I wear out the style until it NEEDS to be done. I usually go through phases, like I wear it curly for a month or two, or straight for a month or two. It will revert back.

Carol's Daughter has a curl milk or somthing like that, that will enhance or bring back your natural curl!  My hair is the same way, but instead of front to back its my ends that are ALWAYS straight.  Unlike you, I always striaghten my hair.  I am very surprised that this happened after 1 session.  I would definitely try a curl serum and if you want it to stay curly i would not straighten it agian.
