unusual traditions

I'm curious to find out what traditions have you seen at weddings that is different from what you are use too?

I've read a few knotties on other boards say that they have attended weddings were the couple opened presents during the reception and everyone watched. I have never seen this and as a guest I think this would be extremely boring.

What have you experienced that you felt was unusual to your circle of friends and family?

I went to a wedding where the couple did a money dance at the reception, I thought it was cool I just felt bad because I don't carry cash so I couldn't pin any money on her.

We also went to a wedding last weekend and the church took an offering at the ceremony for the couple. My friend told us prior to coming this would be done so we didn't feel awkward, she also mentioned that people in her culture don't bring gifts but we were welcomed to.

This!... I'm going to do the money dance at my reception. My sister did this at her reception years ago, and she had soooo much fun! Everyone really enjoyed themselves at that part, because the DJ made everyone a part of the festivities.. even if they didn't have it to give...

I went to a wedding where the kola nut was passed around to the males at the wedding reception. The significance was explained... something about fertility etc. Very interesting.
