Reception Dinner

So last night me and my FI were discussing the dinner menu and what a confusion that started. My FI is part Thai and he wants to have Thai dishes at the reception which is fine. My family is from the South and I want some down home southern food as well while my idea was to have Thai dishes during cocktail hour and we offer Southern cuisine for the main dishes. He didn't agree So he comes up with the idea of having a buffet of Thai and other Asian cuisine and my Southern favorites...I'm still on the fence about that one. any suggestions ladies?

I think the half and half buffet would be good. Then people can pick and choose what they want. But that's just me.

I actually like the Thai idea for cocktails too, but it can probably work if you plan the menu carefully. Example: thai rice as a side, then the option of smothered chicken/fried chicken. A nice thai inspired salad would be nice as a starter. I think it just depends on how you pair and what items.

i think a fusion menu would be best

"fried chicken wingettes with a soy glaze dipping sauce" as a passed appetizer

mesclun salad with peanuts, carrots, sweet potatoes with an asian ginger glaze

see where i'm going with this? =)
