I actually had to add people to my list in order to make the minimum for my room... in all there were only about 4 people that said that were coming that ended up not making it. So.. it wasn't really a loss. When my sister got married though... she ended up paying for 30 plates of food for people who said they were coming but just didn't show. I had a buffet wedding.. so it wasn't really that much of a hit to our pockets.. cause we just notified people that it was a buffet, and they could go up as many times as they wanted to (some people when up like 3 times).. so our food went.. My sister's was plated so.. there really wasn't much you could do ... I know one thing though.. the serving staff ate VERY well at her wedding!..lol

We ended up not having any no shows, we had a few ppl who came and left after dinner older ppl but no real no shows. I was actually surprised. Our final #'s weren't due until 3 days before so the ppl who we thought were iffy we called and verified they could make it some said no so we just didn't count them. We also tried to do the minus 5 ppl thing but the venue wouldn't let us. They only put the exact # of chairs out. So we had to tell them which tables had how many ppl etc.

LOL, I typed a reply to this last night and wondered what happenend to it!<div>
</div><div>We had 177 guests that responded Yes to the RSVP.  I am sure that we are not the norm, but I just counted and we had 34 no-shows. Yes, 34.  Granted about half of the people let us know a few days before the wedding that they weren't attending and the rest just plain ol' no-showed.  It still pisses me off how folks have no regards for other people's money when they do that.  And some of the no-shows were people that have planned weddings for themselves and their children so they KNOW how important it is to get an accurate count.  Shoot, I'm still mad about that!  A few sent really nice gifts so that made it a little better, lol.</div><div>
</div><div>Fortunately,  the chapel and the dance floor were both packed and everyone had a great time so we really didn't notice the amount of no-shows until afterwards.</div><div>
</div><div>I would plan for 5-10 no-shows and it's definitely smart to invite extras just in case.</div>
  • I was thinking of doing the same thing. I definitely dont want to pay for people who will not show and we lose out on that money.

  • thanks ladies for weighing in! I think I'm going to steal MsAmeeras idea and call the iffy folk 2 weeks before. Which is about when we'll make final payments.

Jana I am so sorry about that wasted money. I feel mad for you!

I'm with football.... I will not be friends with those ppl. I will take it personally.... I am just sruggling too hard right now for them to waste my money!

We had 4 no-shows, and 1 person that left after the ceremony so for the purposes of wasted money, it may as well have been 5.  We had to give the exact count for chairs, covers, and place settings.  Even though the number of no-shows was small by comparison, I NOTICED.  But I'm frugal, so there's that......  lol

  • I had 5 no shows but I gave a count of 5 less so i was right on point. We had a cocktail reception so we didn't have assigned seating per say.

</div><div>I knew he was a crasher because I did not invite him and I saw him at the Church. I got married in Raleigh, NC, the crasher lives in Cleveland, Ohio. I let him come in because we had no shows. BUT MISTAKE.....he ordered 3 beers at the time so he could pack some in his car for the drive back to Cleveland. He yelled at the waitstaff because I closed the bar during dinner. Hot mess</div>

  • We had 4 as well but I found out later a few groomsmen wanted more food so those plates went to them. No money wasted I suppose!
  • We had between 15-20 no shows and 4 crashers.
