Talk me out of it

I am doing boxed invitations (decided not to make them myself), so they're spendy. I have a choice of two boxes. Both are black, same size and everything, one has a matte finish and the other is a more faux leather finish. I like the matte better but it's $25 more. Not a lot of money but this is what I always do--find little ways to make expensive things more expensive!! (As evidenced by the fact that I was considering spending even more money for pretty stamps. Oh pretty stamps.)Please talk me out of the matte ones and tell me no one will care or notice and I am being a stupid pretty pretty princess. Champagne and Jessie's Boy need not apply! (Since I know you guys will only encourage me to buy the more expensive ones!)

How about plain invites?  Okay, realistically, if you have the $$ to spend and you want to, go for it.  Honestly, if I could, I would actually turn ours into a roll-up style and slide them into tubes for mailing, so I won't judge. :D

It's just a box. People are going to open the box to get to the invitation and either throw the box away or set it aside. On top of that, it's just a plain black box. Go for the cheaper one. A black box is a black box.Did that work??

Haha Tygirl, it's going to be a box either way, either a more expensive or less expensive box. There are pics but really there's no difference aside from one is shiny and one is not. The shiny one you can't really tell it's "leathery" in the pic, I only know because my invitation person told me that it was and that she likes the other ones I found better.Oh yeah, and the cheaper ones are actually $100 for 100 boxes. The more expensive ones are $125 for 84 boxes. (But I don't need the extra ones so it doesn't really matter to me, and I don't know what anyone else will want ~19 boxes.)

Thank you seblagg. You're pretty good at this. ;-)therickson--And why do you need pics when you're supposed to be telling me NO NO NO?!?!?

I totally did not get this at first... The faux leather would look nice and you can use the money you save to buy great purple shoes! =)

Great point. Sold.

You see, part of me says, keep the money.  The other part says, if you're going to spend $100 on boxes, might as well spend the extra $25 on the ones you want.  But then again, that's just my convoluted thought process. :P

Not helping! The problem is, that's my thought on everything. So it's $25 for the boxes I want, then $50 for the better stamps. It doesn't end, you know what I mean?
• edited December 2011
Okay, how about this, DON'T do the boxes, instead take that money and buy yourself a nice, long, massage a couple weeks before the wedding.  How about that? :)

Somehow I'm not sure I want a $25 massage. JK.
• edited December 2011
No, no, no.  A $125 massage.  Or heck, also forgo the super nice stamps and throw in a facial.  See?  I can totally make sense when it comes to spending money on oneself. :D

oooh I like the massage idea!!! What is more important to you... stamps or boxes? Choose the things you want to add a little extra too and save on the ones that are not as important.. But did i mention I loved those shoes? =)

No one will notice the difference and it will just end up in the recycle. Think of all the lattees, the nice lunch, and Nail polish you could buy. Or the delicious martini!

www.wildcatwholesale.comThey're actually proof boxes for photographers. My invites are 5 x 7 so I needed something with a little bit of extra space on the sided but still thin. A lot of girls get jewelry boxes, but I couldn't find the size I needed. Also, Paper Source carries A7 mailers--just not in black. They're also more expensive--$2 each.

I'm totally not gonna help here, but may I ask who'll be doing your invites? Is there a site we can drool over? :)

Zazzle is WAY more expensive than regular postage. I got it for our STDs. Otherwise how would they make money? =)Do you have some sort of special coupon code or something???
