So, I don't know if anyone on here has researched this aspect of getting married yet, but does anyone know where and how and what I need to legally change my last name? I'm completely lost and all of the legal mumbojumbo is mixing me up even more! haha So any help is GREATLY appreciated! TIA!

Once you get a copy of your marriage certificate, you can take that to the social security office and drivers license office along with a picture ID (doesn't matter which you do first) and they will change it - you will get your new cards in the mail shortly after. Then you can go about changing it on everything else - work, bank accounts, credit cards, utilities, etc...  Some will just change your name right over the phone, other places will want you to send/come in/ or fax a copy of your marriage certificate - it reall just depends on their procedures, so you'll need to call and ask most what their name changing policy is.  It's not hard at all - just time consuming.  HTH!

So unless you're honeymoon is delayed by many months, you won't get to travel under your new married name, do you.

*KS* I was wondering the same thing.. you don't travel on your honeymoon as Mrs. "FI last name" ?I'm not quite sure how the honeymoon thing works when your trying to change your name especially when you're using passports?

If you are leaving for your honeymoon soon after the wedding you will need to travel under your maiden name. It can take 6 weeks to get your passport changed.

DItto last post, even if you are flying in the country. Travel under your maiden name or they won't let you through security onto the plane. Unless you are traveling several months later.
