Ten Pound Party!

Hey y'all! I am happy about my progress and wanted to share with someone who might understand...it also may encourage someone.

I set a goal at the end of July to lose 16 pounds. I had peaked at 146 pounds (I'm only 5'2 1/2") in June and had gone from a size 4/6 to an 8/10 in less than two years. Needless to say, I wanted to turn it around. I rejoined my gym and started eating better and got serious with myself and in six weeks, I've lost 10 pounds and am back in a size 6. I don't go to the gym everyday and I don't starve myself or anything, but I workout regularly (cardio and strength training), count calories, eat healthier foods in better portions and cut out sweets, juices, and sodas. It has made all the difference. I am now 136 and I look and feel better which has done a lot for my spirit. I still have 6 more pounds to go to reach my goal. I will continue to make healthy choices and workout to continue toning muscles. My dress comes in this month or next and it will be too big...I can deal with that though. Thanks for listening!

Congrats on the 10 lbs! I've lost about 30 and know exactly what you mean about feeling better. I'd like to lose another 15 before the wedding, so here's to getting rid of the rest!

CONGRATS Eagles!  So happy for you!  I have lost about 5 lbs and I want to keep it off and possibly lose 5 more before the big day.  I definitely need to continue working on toning my upper arms also.  Thanks for this post, it's motivating for the rest of us!

That's good! I'm 5'2, and like you not used to being this weight.(started at 140lbs). My weight goal is 130 pounds. I was 135 last week, until my period hit. Up two pounds. This post helps to keep me motivated, though. So thank you, and good job again.

This is great news Eagles.  Keep up the good work!  I know that you will reach your goal.  This is a motivating post.  I have been telling DH for months that I'm going to join a gym and eat healthier and yesterday he called me on it and said just that.  But I am going to join tomorrow after work.  I'm serious.  I have gained a lot of weight in the past couple of years and miss getting into my old clothes too, but more than that, I am getting older and I am feeling the effects.  I really hope that by working out I'll get better sleep at night.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad that some of you found some motivation in this post! As African-American women we are already at high risk for so many medical conditions that can be prevented simply by reducing our weight and eating healthier/exercising. We owe it to ourselves to take great care of this temple...no matter how curvy it may be! ;)

Congrats to those of you who have already been working toward your fitness goals! Also, congrats to those of you who plan to start...the hardest part is making up your mind and then taking the first step!

    Yay for us!

@ Ty - We ARE twins...that's almost weird! I totally feel where you are though...if you wanna motivate each other, hit me up on FB. I can give you my number and we can be accountability partners or just provide an ear for the frustrated moments.
