Photographer went Out Of Business

Ladies, I could really use some prayers on this one. I just got an email from our photography company saying as of last Friday, they are officially out of business. They offered to refer me to someone that may honor their contract, but maybe not the price. The email also stated that if we don't go with their referral we still cannot get any of our money refunded. We have already paid them $800 towards our wedding photography, and we are on a really tight budget; we cut some people off of our list to afford their photography because we liked it so much and pictures are the most important part to me (that's what lasts forever). I just feel sick to my stomach right now and don't know what to do. I want to cry, but I have to keep it together here at work.

I don't think I have any good advice except to at least talk to the other photographer and then seek legal action.  There should be something about getting a refund if they go out of business - which wasn't your fault

What does the contract say about things that are unexpected?  Either way, you should definitely get your $800 back.  That's highway robbery.  Even if you don't really plan to sue I'd at least threaten them with legal action.  Have you taken any engagement pictures or anything?  If not, then you're for sure entitled to get your money back if they haven't even produced any images.  I'm so sorry about this!  I know I'd be ready to get black on somebody!

Awwww so sorry to hear about this that really sucks. As someone who has recently gone through the same thing (My reception venue went out of business on 1.9.11) I totally feel your pain. Please look into the other company since they did at least offer that. Look at their work and if it is up to par and they have your date available and they will work with you on price then I would say go with them. If not then I am 100% sure that you will find someone else. Legal action is always the way to go and most companies hate that threat so they will react with the sheer mention.

I am telling you please don't stress (even though I know you will) and pray about it GOD will surely work it out. We found a place that was 10 times better, cheaper and had our date available so I know the same will happen for you!

do you have your original contract and have you read as far as refunds go for what you first signed.  I will be sending prayers and hopefully threaten with legal action is enough...sorry to hear the news.

That is crazy. They should give you your money back. There should be something in the contract about events beyond your control.  I would speak with the Better Business Bureau. Maybe you can find out who else hired them and see if they are being treated this way also.  I will be praying for you. I hope everything works out.

Sorry this has happened to you. Check out the company they referred to you though, as well as shop around. Like someone said, definitely read your contract to see if it says anything about refunds. Legal action may be the way to go, but I also understand that is one less thing you would want to deal with at this time cause that can be a lengthy & stressful process in itself. I pray it gets better for you.
