I am not sure about this one, but it is when you give someone the title to show them they are special to you; however, they do not stand with you, pictures, etc.  It is just an honor to them.

    If that ain't it, IDK.

Some people do it for different reasons. I've been to a wedding where she had 2 honorary bridesmaids one was a close friend from high school who was serving overseas and couldn't come home for the wedding and the other was a friend who couldn't travel because of illness. And then at another wedding I went to they had a honorary groomsman who passed away just a month or so before the wedding.

Usually when someone has the title of honorary bridesmaids it's someone who can't be at the wedding in person for a serious reason. If they are at the wedding and being call honorary that's the bride or groom just not having the guts to tell them they didn't want them in the wedding party

Yea i thought it was like maybe a person who passed away or couldn't be there... not your friends who were cool but just not your real friends ... weird

I had a friend whose mom died of cancer so she had an honary BM walk down when her mom would have been ushered in. That makes sense to me but the walking behind the real bridesmaids thats just strange.
