NWR: How do you?

Prepare your pot roast? Normally I'll sear it on the stove and then cook in oven, but I wanted to try out one of our new wedding gifts a crock pot. What kind of seasonings do you use and how do you keep them when using the crock pot. I'm new to this cooking thing trying to get into it and get some ideas. :)

I cook my roast in the crock pot.  I used salt, pepper, garlic seasoning and Lawrys. Chop onions and add water to the bottom of the pot and I let it cook for 4 hours on high.

I cook my pot roast in the crock pot on low heat all day (8-10) hours. I always submerge my roast completely in beef stock (or chicken broth). I cut it with water depending on how big of a roast I have. I typically don't add any other seasonings until about an hour or so before I take it out. I'm not a veggie person with my roast so I typically don't add carrots/onions/etc unless I'm cooking for someone who specifically ordered it (I cater a little here and there).

To prepare the roast for cooking I season it with sea salt, fresh ground pepper, and onion powder and let sit in the fridge over night. Beef tends to "make it's own juices" once refridgerated so that itself "soaks" up the seasonings. Don't be afraid to touch your roast... rub the seasonings in.

I make mine with Onion soup mix ( I hate the texture of onions and the way they smell) So the soup mix is a great alternative. I season the meat with Lawrys pepper and garlic powder. I love potatoes with my roast so I clean off the potatoes and then cut them into smaller pieces and drop them in the crop pot. DH loves cooked carrots so I add some of those for him too. Once I get all the items together I put some of the veggies on the bottom then the roast them the rest of the veggies fill half way with water or beef stock and then cook on low for 8 to 10 hours while I am at work and then it is ready to go when we get home. Yum O licisous. the crock pot is your friend I make tons in mine but roast is really that deal!

I use the HECK out of my crock pot for a lot of our meals.  So  I usually use the pot roast seasoning or a blend we have at home.  I always do it low and slow for the 8-10 hrs.  I also cook pork shoulders to make pulled pork, chicken for various meals and we even did a cobbler in it too!

Oh! I forgot -  if you add a packet of au jus after your pot roast is done, you will have a great juice.  So good!

I actually cook mine on the stove ( still getting used to the crock pot) I season it with the salt, coarse black pepper, etc and then add the roast to heated oil (olive or canola) to sear it on all sides. I take it out, saute some onions and add about 1/4 cup of liquid( beef broth cut with water or red wine If I'm being all fancy lol) bring it to a boil, cut it down to low and add the roast. Cover and let cook for 3-4 hours.

Thanks ladies and wallaceje you are so very welcome. Ladies I'm trying to make sure my husband does not starve. LOL! I will use your suggestions the next time I make it. I may be  back asking more receipe questions or for more cooking ideas. I think a lot of my issues with cooking is to me it is mentally draining. First it's trying to come up with meals, then gathering all of the ingredients, then making sure it's seasoned good (DH is from New Orleans and seasoning is important!!!), and then of course taking the time to cook it. You ladies are the best!
