I know of a woman named Renee, I am being super lazy and pasting part of an email with the most important info. She did calligraphy for someone I know and they looked great and she will be doing mine as well.I have been doing calligraphy for over 30 years and specialize in wedding invitation envelopes and place cards. I charge $1.00 for each outer envelope, $.25 for inner envelopes and $.50 for place cards, and my turn around time is about 3 to 5 days. polcher@bctelco.net

It blows my mind this is something people would pay for. Have you looked into any DIY ideas? I've seen where some brides will print in a light colored ink on the envelopes and go over with ink and it's looked perfectly handwritten. Most people shun using labels, but I used clear laser printer labels, and they looked awesome. You couldn't even tell they were there, (they were opaque, not plastic-y and shiny like you might be thinking.)

I asked FI about this, and he says he can do up labels with some nice fonts and a little graphic magic to make 'em look interesting.  I know that a proper invitation is supposed to have hand-written labels, but this is one area where I have no problem throwing propriety out the window. That being said, I have heard of girls writing over printed labels (like pp suggested).  It can work, if that's something you want to do.

I'm definately doing labels. I think people would rather be able to read their name then try to decipher my scrawl. I guess the proper etiquette gods will hate me. i heard about the light ink thing, i wonder how that looks? :0)IF you can afford it and it is important for some one to do that for you go for it. Just remember, people are going to throw it away after they open it. That alone makes me change my mind about packaging.

We have a friend that offered to do this for us, otherwise it would be labels all the way...

If you can afford the calligraphy, it is a nice touch. However, if you have to be very budget conscious, I would try one of the methods from PP. That said, I think the pricing quoted above seems rather reasonable to me!

I bought a calligraphy pen and practiced. The pen makes my handwriting so much nicer! I'm just doing my own. For free!
