I called my MUA today to catch up with her and left her a voicemail. She emailed me back the following: 

Hi Michele,

 

How are you?  I received your phone call today as I was on the phone with my other July 21^st bride who was informing me that her location has changed.  To make a long story short, it will interfere with me doing your wedding makeup on the same day. L

 

I sincerely apologize and I know this is disappointing, however, I do have a solution for you:

 

1.       Natasha Marcelina, who is on my makeup team, is available to do your makeup for you.  Please view her work here:  http://moniquepowers.com/natasha-m-makeup-only.html.  If this is something you are interested in, I will arrange for you to have a preview (free of charge of course) and I will refund $50 back to you; or,

2.       I can mail your $300 refund to:

Please let me know soon what you would like to do and again I sincerely apologize.

On another note, I feel a little relieved because I was feeling like I was paying too damn much for her anyway, but WTF!!!

Right??? That is some janky, unprofessional, ish!!! I have reached out to my wedding coordinator to see if she has any referrals... I also posted on the Los Angeles and Wedding Beauty boards and started canvassing on the internet!!! 

Really... I'm guessing that she has a larger party on the other wedding (because for me it was just my makeup), but that is some bu.....it....

I definitely would go to the Mac counter, even prior to your wedding alot of those girls do stuff on the side. I have a friend who used to work at Mac and then started her own professional business outta of it. And on top they might end up being cheaper because they are trying to get exposure.

I actually went to the MAC counter for my e-pics and makeup was fine. I might just go down there and see if I can find someone, do a trial and then go from there...

I also might go ahead and do the free trial with the woman that the MUA recommended and see how that goes...

And $300 is BONKERS girl! My MUA is $150 for me and $50 for each additional person....and that's for airbrush too.

Consider yourself lucky....now you can find a better deal!

Wait...did you say $300 just for your makeup only??? Yikes! I know things are more expensive in CA than NC but wowsers! Mine was $150 and that seems to be the going rate from bridal makeup here. Even though it was extremely unprofessional on her part, I would consider it a blessing and look for someone less expensive. The first MUA I booked didn't do contracts and I was so afraid of this very thing happening. I ended up finding someone else that had a contract and I was able to relax. Finding the right MUA was my most difficult wedding task but I'm glad I pressed on because the one I ended up with was perfect and yours will be too!! Good luck!

Yeah. Ok.  That was lousy for sure and you are probably right.  She had a bigger paycheck waiting for her with teh other bride.  I would go with the free trial and then if that doesn't work head on over to the MAC counter.  Good luck!

Yes... $300 is insane... things in CA are expensive, and she is expensive even for the normal going rate... I am thinking that this gives me the chance to find a cheaper option... but it's so close to the date that it sucks AND I did have a contract... 

I am confident that this will work out and even if I have to do my own makeup, I will be happy on that day (ok, I'm not really going to do my own makeup...)

300.00!!! Damn Gina!!!! Whooo chele, I agree with the MAC counter or Bobbi Brown... I feel that makeup will be my dilemma. If all else fails, I will just do it myself, I've gotten pretty good over the years....lashes and everything...

$300 for just You!??!?! Yes that is quite ridiculous. My MUA regular rate is $200 for the bride and $60 for the maids, but she is a celebrity MUA so I can understand that.

You don't like the work of her other artist on her team?

Did you have a contract with her?? She can't bail on you if you did.

Maybe her assistant is good but you shouldn't pay more than $200 for make-up and even this is high unless they are THE BEST!!!

I'm paying $160 for only mine and that includes airbrush and lashes. Then I hired a second MUA that is a lot cheaper and he is doing the MOB & MOG plus 2 of the BMs for $50 each.

Yes... I had a contract and she bailed... I booked her right as I was moving, and of course, I can't find the contract now... The contract did include airbrush and lashes though.

Her other artist does seem to do good work, and to be honest, when I booked her, I was considering going with someone else on her team, and she was on the one. On the other hand -- on GP, I kinda feel like I just need to cancel. I have replied to her email and said that I want to do a trial with the other lady before I decide for sure. I have also reached out for some other contacts because I know I could save some $$. 

I feel like if I go to the MAC counter, it'll be hit or miss, and I don't want to take a chance on that day... if I go before and find someone I like, then I have to buy $50 in product and then still pay them to come out on my wedding day and that'll cost almost as much as homegirl... 

But I am cool.... it's gonna work out for the best!
