How did you ask your bridesmaids...

...to be your bridesmaids.  My twin sister is coming home from her deployment in Afghanistan next week (yay!) and we're flying down to see her.  I want to ask her and my younger sister to be my MOHs, but I wanted to do something creative, especially since I haven't seen my twin since January...I just want to do something special for both of them. What did everyone on here do?  I'm thinking just writing a heartfelt note to each of them and buying a little gift maybe.

Man, I feel like I TOTALLY missed a memo here, because I just asked them. Just while talking to them one day all, "Hey, will you be a bridesmaid in my wedding?" I even asked a couple of them over IM because, well, that's how I talk to them most of the time. I had NO IDEA that gifts and things were involved. Oops. Luckily, none of them seemed to notice and/or mind.

I think most people do it that way.  I just wanted to do something nice since my sisters have NO idea we're having a bridal party at all (because we changed out minds about it) and because my one sister has been so homesick being overseas and I thought it would just make her day to do something extra.I think when people give gifts or do something nice, it's kind of like giving the BP gift to the person early.   I may just blurt it out to them.  Still working out the kinks on it ;)

I crafted some cards. I think I have a picture in my bio under paper, but I could be wrong.

Get a cute card with a huge ugly dress in a box as a joke? :)

Pixelsmom-- only if someone is standing by to document (with photos) my sisters' complete and utter disgust in the dresses I get for them.  This, so far, is my favorite idea.

I'm having my best friend and my sister as my MOH.  (And my other two sisters as bm's).  For all of them I found a cute picture of me and each girl, went to kinkos and made up an "invitation" with the following phrase. The day, the dress, the bride, the groom,The joy, the tears, will all come so soon.Professing true love to my husband-to-beWith family and friends all watching meI hope the sun will be shining down, Keep your fingers crossedThat I'll fit in my gown… But there's just one more thing that there needs to be… and that's to have you standing with me! Will you be my Bridesmaid?I sent them in the mail to each girl.  I didn't get a gift or anything, but I thought the pictures were classic.  Especially the ones of my sisters and I, because the ones I chose were when we were growing up.Anyway, sorry to be so long... I hope this helps! GL

We aren't really having a bridal party so it's just my MOH and FI's Best Man. My little sister is going to be my MOH. I sent her an anonymous bouquet of flowers to her work. In the card I said to log in to this gmail account that I had made for this specific purpose. I provided the user id and password on the card but didn't tell her who it was from. When she logged in there was one email waiting for her. It was from me where I wrote her a very heartfelt not about how much it would mean to both FI and me for her to be part of our special and stand up there with us. And some more mushy/funny stuff of course =). She was so surprised and loved receiving flowers at work! People at work thought it was from her BF or a secret admirer. Haha!

I like that Jostina.  I'm assuming that's some scrapbooking stuff?  I like the "reasons" in the middle (although my reason could be- I'm your sister and dad will make you do it whether you want to or not). I also love the idea of getting flowers at work (who doesn't like flowers).   I am getting some good ideas ladies! Thanks!

I took all of my BMs and MOH out to lunch at this cute little restaurant. I made them each shirts which had BM or MOH (spelled out) across the chest and put their names on the bottom corner. ( I used Iron on letters from michaels). Then I scrapbooked them each a page with a picture of me and them a few quote stickers and such and a little note with memories, and why I want them to stand beside me on my big day! I just made my MOH a bigger page and framed it for her. That's my story! : ) And I think they all liked it, it was cool sitting there and watching some crack up about the memories or some tearing up (my mom is my MOH so she got a little teary eyed).

I asked them over the phone or in person, but I wanted to send them these cute little cookies that had a poem on them and asked if they would be bridesmaids. Turns out the shipping cost more than the dang cookies! I was pretty bummed. I'm gonna send them pretty flowers after the wedding when they all go back home and surprise them for thank you's.

We had to take my engagement ring and wedding band back to the jewelers a few times for sizing and issues. Everytime, they would give me a new black box. SO I gave each of my bridesmaids a ring box with a note asking them to spend my day with me!

...I'm sure this is no surprise to the ladies, but I didn't really think about how to ask my groomsmen too much :). The gifts can wait until they actually make it to the wedding in one piece. In my defense I DID ask them with plenty of lead time, which doesn't always happen.I sort of like the nightmare dress idea. I guess the dude equivalent would be a one of those awful tuxedo T-shirts. hmmm...
