To much cake?

in African American Weddings

I am so confused about what kind of cake design I want or cakes. Yes I said cakes I would love to have a couple diff cakes with diff styles, I bake and decorate cakes so I know all the lovely cakes that are out there and I would just love to showcase them. Then I was thinking of doing a dessert table with cake truffles, chocolate covered pretzels etc plus cake. Of course I want it to look nice and not overboard. Do you ladies think this is all to much?

    hmmmm it depends, people are so stuffed by dessert they usually eat one or 2 things or pick at it but everyone wants to taste the cake lol. Maybe if you have an assortment on display you can also have cute to go containers so ppl can take them with if they want

    ohhh cute containers. Like some chinesse take out ones... they sell an assortment of colors at Michael's.

    i love desserts... hence why I am working out. A dessert bar may be a cute idea. Would you consider doing assortment of cakes for your shower? Then people can ohhhh and ahhhh over them in an intimate setting.

    what type of cakes are you thinking of making?

    Yes I have the take out boxes ready to get filled! I just wanted to have a different couple of styles of cakes since I cant make up my mind on just one. Like mini cakes of big cakes I have imagined. I know with all the food people will be full and will end up taking sweets home.

    So here is what I am doing because a lot of my family doesn't like cake.  Also his family and my family have not met each other.  I needed something to get people to get up and mingle after dinner.  FI and I are having a small wedding cake. Two tiers or three tops.  1 to take home and 1 to cut. 

    Instead of doing numbers on the tables there will be a different dessert at each table.  I have 14 tables so instead of table 1 it will be red velvet cake table, chocolate chip cookie table, peanut patties table (FI favorite), chocolate covered strawberries table, peach cobbler table and so on and so on.  You could easily do this with different flavor cakes. 

    The bonus is It will also make people get up to go get the dessert they want from another table.  This will cause folks to mingle as they get the dessert they want.  Since I am doing the seating chart the older people who have a hard time getting around will be seated at the table with the dessert I know they like.  I for sure will have to go cartons available so nothing is left behind.  I know it sounds like a lot of desserts but I know my people and it will all be gone.  Everyone that I have told I am doing this is so excited about the idea and has told me what table they want to sit at. LOL  HTH  Good luck

    I'm serving a groom's cake and a traditional wedding cake. We are also having a desert bar. My people are greedy Embarassed

    I needed this so bad at my wedding and like you said they will eat everything up.  If not they will take some home.  It will keep your guest thinking about your wonderful wedding even after they have gone home.  My FI was excited about the idea cause he got to have a table with his favorite desset. LOL  I will make sure that some gets put away for him. : )  Good luck!

    As of right now, I am not doing cake because FI is vegan, and I don't feel like going through the motions of trying to find a vegan baker in Jamaica.
