Jumping the broom

We plan to jump the broom as part of our ceremony in a couple of weeks.  I have a broom, but have no clue how to decorate it.  I've looked on google and various other search engines to find ideas.  The ones I have seen are beautiful, they just aren't what I'm looking for.  I've asked FH and he really doesn't care what it looks like.  The only thing I know for sure is that I like covering the handle in ribbon.  Besides that I'm clueless.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

This is a great question! I have a broom and some ribbon for the handle, but I don't know what else to do.

I'm planning on doing a DIY broom too... I was just gonna cover the broom in ribbon and make some bows. Heck IDK where to even get the broom at!

Here's a picture of my broom.  My mom made it.  I originally wanted a light colored broom with the soft bristles but I couldn't find one with a long handle. This one was at Michael's for $1.

My mom used a thick satin to make the broom stick thicker first.  Then she used two main ribbons to wrap the broom.  All the flowers came from Michaels (really cheap, less than $5.

I have a bunch of little cousins who all wanted to be flower girls.  So, we're having 4 little girls do a ribbon dance to"Ribbon in the Sky" and another little girl bring the broom down and we'll jump at the end of the song.  The ribbons are really beautiful rhythmic gymnastic ribbons and flow. Here's the ribbon

Beautiful ribbon and great idea for how to incorporate the tradition and your little cousins into your day! I don't think we're jumping, but if we were, I would definitely consider tweaking this idea for my own wedding.

This is not a DIY...i'm not that ambitous chile...however..it  may give you an idea.  I picked this one because calla lillies are the main flower we are using for the wedding.  http://african-weddings.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=2180 Hope this helps.

Desi 2002 -  I got my broom from Cracker Barrel.  The cost was $6-7, but another costumer overhead me telling an employee what I was using it for and bought it for me.  I hugged her and basically ran out of the store because I knew tears were coming soon.  I was able to hold off long enough get to the car and call FH, who was confused about why I was crying, so I called my aunt  since everyone else I knew was working or just wouldn't understand.

I think the next (small) step after I get the handle covered will be to put a bow at the base of the handle.  After that I'm still a little lost, but not nearly as much as before I got your responses.  It would probably help if I knew what I did or didn't want, but  I asked FMIL for her help (mainly as a peace offering) so hopefully she can help me through it.

    Thanks ladies!
