a little bummed...(long)

so FI proposed with his mom's engagement ring and we are using her stone for my ring. So the next day FI went looking for rings and ended up buying one!!!!!! YIPPIEbut.... they had to make a new ring because they said we should not resize a ring that is an 8 to a 4 1/2 (makes the ring oval??) so FI ordered the ring and they guy said it would take 42 days or 6 weeks to have it done..... ok so that is fine I can wait... but its been 8 weeks today and they were suppose to have it on saturday and the FI went to pick it up and they said they didn't have it and his name wasn't on the list...we don't really know what to do?? should we ask for our money back and go somewhere else?? do we wait? do we call everyday? i dont know.. i am just upset about the whole thing... doesn't make any sense and i feel like the people at Jared don't even care... i mean its my RING im going to wear it the rest of my life!!! ok sorry just had to vent....

That sucks, I'm so sorry. Honestly, we didn't buy from Jared because we didn't have a very good feeling about them - too salesy being one, and the person we dealt with only seemed to care about making a sale. If they say they don't have record of it, then I say have FI dispute the charge on his card (hopefully he charged it?) saying that he never received the merchandise the merchant was to send him.

Well, when are they going to have the ring in, if not when the promised?  Do you have a contract?  According to the contract, can you even get out of the purchase now (i.e. does it include a definite delivery date and state what will happen if the ring is not delivered on time?)? I actually don't think it's uncommon to have the rings take longer than they tell you.  My FI would call and talk to the manager, chew him/her out, and push for a delivery date, with a written promise that if the ring isn't delivered by then, we get our money back. He also didn't buy from Jared b/c they lost all our information after we'd gone and I picked out some settings I liked, and were pretty unapologetic about it.  He went with a local jeweler that's been in business forever instead.

My FI had my ring custom made and the jeweler/artist quoted him 4-6 weeks... 10 weeks later we finally received the ring.FI just kept emailing the artist and calling the store.  Finally he spoke to the owner and expressed his disappointment... ring was done in 3 days... weird :)  They asked that we come back to have the ring photographed for their portfolio and while we were there I half jokingly mentioned getting a pair of earrings or something for our trouble, they laughed and said no but gave FI a small (REALLY small) discount on the ring.  Didn't make a big difference but the gesture was appreciated. My suggestion: tell FI to call and talk to the store manager or call Jared corporate... it might help.  Otherwise get the $$ back and take your business elsewhere (be careful they don't "lose" your stone or anything though!!).

So how did it end--they just said he wasn't on the list and FI left? They must have had some conversation about what will happen now? I'd go talk with a manager and find out what they plan to do. If it's not acceptable and/or you can get out of it, do that. I don't know what the terms of your sale are/if returns are accepted so it's hard to advise you.

Um, I hope they don't have the stone? I'm assuming you signed paperwork with an order for what you wanted and what they were going to do with the stone, and a due date? Don't they put these things in a computer or something? If you guys gave them money and the stone, I would be all over them wanting to know where the ring was and when it would be in. When a vendor gives me a deadline, I expect it to be there on time, and if it's not, I expect a new date and assurances that this time that date will be met.

I went to Jared several times...some people were great some were really pushy.  I think it just depends.  I also have really small fingers and you have to have it made or it turns out very weird looking and oval...not good.  I would see how much longer it will take...it make take too long and be too much trouble to start over with someone new.

I agree with everyone else's advice about talking to the higher-ups about it, and making sure you have the stone, and get your money back. I'd take it to EE Robbins (if you have one close to you). We've had nothing but great service from them, they're in touch with some really creative designers, and I think you'd be treated much more fairly there than Jared. :)

thanks everyone!!! appreciate all your insight and thoughts :)I wasn't there when he bought it.. FI went out and did it himself :) so proud of him haha :)so its really his department and i told him that he needs to either talk to manager or tell them he wants his money back...so yesterday FI told me that now they say my ring wont be ready till Nov sometime.. and he was like WHAT! and kind of told them off and said that it doesn't make any sense and he wants his money back.. and then whoever he was talking to was like: oh oh well let me see what I can do about getting the ring sooner bla bla bla and call you back... so not sure if FI talked to the person again.... havent talked to FI today yet but i'll keep you guys posted!
