So we now have a theme...

I realized this weekend how un-creative I can be when time is of the essence.

Hello ladies! In case you didn't see my other post, my parents are throwing an engagement party for my FI and I and have solicited our input on ideas for a theme...we all would like for the party to be fun and casual, but really personal. We decided that a travel theme is a great fit for us.

So...any food suggestions, specialty drinks, favors, decor? The invitations will look like boarding passes and my mom and I talked about incorporating postcards from the places that FI and I have visited, but that's about it in the ideas department. I just had a random idea to use t-shirts as favors...they could say, "I went to N & C's engagement party, and all I got was this dumb t-shirt." Similar to the ones I used to get from my grandmother's vacations as a kid...

Idk...brainstorming. Any ideas that you have would be greatly appreciated.

What a cute idea!  I love the T-shirt idea as favors.  Sooooooo cute!  The boarding pass invitations are such a cute idea too.  As far as food and specialty drink, maybe you can focus on a particular location.  What is you and FI's favorite vacation spot?  Maybe you can pick food from that vacation spot.  For example, let's say you love Spain.  Perhaps you can do tapas and serve sangrias.

    THANK YOU LADIES!

I would love to serve finger foods...our favorite vacation spot so far has been Jamaica...maybe my mom knows someone who could whip up some tasty authentic Jamaican dishes. We could do some jerk or curry dishes, but I would have to do some research on sides. Maybe a rum punch...

Today, my friend suggested that I incorporate several of our favorite spots and name a table after each, but we didn't even think of what that would mean for food.

It might be tough to figure out foods to represent some of our faves...Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., Charlotte (soul food/southern cuisine), and Savannah (seafood).

Please keep the ideas coming if you have any...

You could focus on those favorite destinations and incorporate different things from each (I agree, not food representing each).

I like the idea of each table representing a different destination.

    - The Vegas table could have fake gold coins on it and maybe a small, fake version of a slot machine in the middle.
    - The DC table could have a replica of Capitol or the White House in the middle and everyone's place setting could have a small American flag at it.
    - The Savannah table could include a small, working (if possible) fountain in the middle of the table to represent all of the historic squares in that city.
    - The Charlotte table...well, I don't know as much about Charlotte so I'd have to research that one!

But in my honest opinion if Jamaica is your favorite I would stick with that and create one, cohesive theme for your party.  Red Stripe beer, rum punch, Jamaican sodas/Ting, curry, jerk, plantains, rice and peas, roti, patties, etc.  The decor could be tropical, which will be easy to decorate with - they have those type of decorative items at a lot of places.  You could play dancehall and reggae music...it would be really fun!
