WDYT??? pocketfold question

So we want to do black pocket folds. Our colors are black, white, royal blue, and apple green. Do you think black pocketfolds will be beautiful and summery enough? Also, if I do black for sure, I need to figure out if I should do the shiny black or the matte black. The shiny looks more grey to me. What do you think??There is a pic of our invitation in my bio. I think it's going to be a little different than that but the general idea will be the same. WDYT???

I think black will be beautiful, but necessarily summery. I really like your invites. If you want summery, maybe you should go for blue or green. Or could you use blue and/or green for the address or stamp?

Oh.. I never thought about if I get black pocketfolds does that automatically mean I need black envelopes? Couldn't I just do green or white? :)

I think black is fine. I would do shiny. The black doesn't say summer to me, but at the same time I don't think it needs to (at least that is just me). I think it just says this is an elegant event you should come to it :)

What if you used a monogram or your names and the design from the inside of the invitation printed in blue or green on white then mounted on a small blue or green square for on the flap of the pocket fold?  I think that would make the black just seem like a background.

I don't think you would get black envelopes would you? I would think that would be a nightmare to make the addresses readable without a metallic pen or something? Does the post office even allow black envelopes for that reason? I have no clue but that might be something to ask if you wind up with black envelopes. Your invites are really nice. I agree with PP, black doesn't say summery, but if that's not your main concern then I think it would be really nice. I love color so if it were me I would probably do a green envelope as opposed to white. But that said you could also do white envelopes with green and blue return address labels that match the look and feel of your invites. Oh, and without seeing the paper, my vote would be matte black. =)

I would go with the shimmery (Onyx). It looks really nice and not gray to me. I think if you did it with the bright colors like you're planning, it wouldn't look too dark and would have a nice punch to it. I think green envelopes (maybe with a black liner?) would look great.I don't think you would get black envelopes would you? You can also get a silver or gold gel pen to address them. The color just has to be a certain percentage contrast for the machines to pick it up.

Well first of all, if you're getting pocketfolds from cards & pockets, green is out. I have ordered samples of every single color green paper they have there & I can tell you they have nothing in the apple/lime family. That said, I think the black is fine, and like the idea of mounting the invite on a mat of blue or green, and having a monogram closure on blue or green. Again, you won't find the green at cards and pockets but it's easier to get apple green cardstock than it is apple green pocketfolds. If you use the black, I think the metallic would be cool. It won't look as gray in person, just pearly. I think a metallic royal blue with apple green accents would be awesome as well. If you want to use the C&P discount code, and don't want to wait for samples, go to paper zone. They have Stardream paper in the store, which is the same as C&P metallics. Also, I recommend French Paper's Pop-tones in Sour Apple for your green. You can buy this online in bulk, or at Paper Zone. I have some in front of me right now & it is a beautiful apple green. http://www.paper-papers.com/French-Paper-POPTONE-Sour-Apple-85x11-Paper-65lb-COVER-250PK.html?thissku=FR777dash777PT777dash777811C777dash777SA777dash777250&site=google_base HTH!

I got the metallic cornflower pocketfolds with a metallic pearl paper for my invite.  Then when I was deciding on the mat color, I ordered samples of the onyx (metallic) and the matte black and to be honest I did not like the look of the onyx and ended up going with the matte black.  I think it may be however because it was just too much metallic and I needed something to break it up - I'm going to see if I can find my sample to see what the color looks like and if it seems gray or black and let you know if I can find it.

Ok found my samples and both the matte black and metallic black look black - not gray.  The matte black definitely seems a bit darker obviously due to the shine on the metallic but they are both defintely black.

Black doesn't say 'summer' to me, it says 'classy' or 'elegant'. Have you ordered samples? We went through cards and pockets as well, ordered samples of all the purple ones, and was very surprised that the colors on the screen really aren't the true colors. We wanted an amethyst-y purple, and their 'eggplant' was more the color we wanted than their 'amethyst'. Personally, I think matte looks nicer, but then again, I'd order samples to see how you feel about them. I only ordered matte for ours, so I have no idea how shiny the 'shiny' really is.

Sara I ended up doing a black and fuschia wedding invite, I wanted to do pocket folds but too complicated for me at the time I was designing. I used a black pearlescent cardstock that I got from the PaperZone, it's the best of both the shiny and the matte worlds. :) Good luck chica!

Ohh I forgot to add, I think it will do the "summer trick"! It seems like a couple of summers ago the whole white/color splash/black summer dresses were huge! Plus I decided to go black because to me it says bada$$ and punk rock, all of which is wonderful in my world!

Is the mat shimmery too? I don't really like when two shimmery layers are right next to each other, although it does work in some cases. I think with pics it's going to be too hard to tell, it prob looks different in person.

I agree with Melissa.  Shimmery + shimmery = too much.  I like the shimmery pocketfold though, so find a non-shimmery mat & you will be good to go!   I feel like I just said shimmery an awful lot...

I agree with melissa - I think that's what I didn't like when I was looking at the metallic mat along with the metallic invite and pocketfold.  It was just too much.  I found it distracting and hard to read the invite.  But the matte mat broke up all the metallic nicely.  I would suggest not having two metallics next to each other.

YEAH! love it minus all the sparkles Agreed that black doesn't necessarily say "summer" but it does say "wedding" so who cares! I LOVE the filagree around the edges. very pretty!

Ditto Melissa - if it's mounted on shimmery paper, I would use the matte black - it would help the shimmery paper pop a bit more, IMO.

I vote shimmer, but that's just me! I love shimmer, and I don't think that it's too much, the onynx is what I used, and it doesn't end up looking like a disco ball or something...go with what you like the best. :)
