Fondant!!!!

I'm looking at cakes and I like the look of fondant. Does it really taste that bad?

Re: Fondant!!!!

  • To be honest it really can taste bad! It depends on the baker though...taste it first, you be The judge....

My baker is convinced that her fondant is the greatest and just needs to be tasted. I'm halfway thinking I'm going to tell her I want regular frosting. I would go with PP and ask for a taste test.

  • Looks gorgeous but tastes horrible! It's gummy and kind of hard to chew. I just pick it off eat the buttercream underneath it.

I have learned that the Fondant looks very pretty, but does not taste well at all.We are doing a cupcake cake and I sampled ones with fondant and buttercreme. The buttercreme taste so much better but the fondant was very pretty not good on the taste. Hopes this helps.
  • depends on what kind of food coloring it has in it... if any.... you can talk to your baker about the fondant taste

  • I have never tasted fondant that was not nasty! But it is beautiful. If your venue is doing the cake cutting for you be sure to check with them because some venues won't cut it, they'll just peel the fondant off and cut the iced cake underneath. It is a pain in the butt to cut!

  • Buttercream is cool if the venue is not hot or humid Because it will melt like no body's biz
