Best Idea Ever!

Okay so my family totally teased me when I told them that this year on November 1, January 1, February 15, and whatever the day after Easter is this year I am going CANDY BARGAIN SHOPPING! Holla! For the candy buffet I am purchasing 50% off candy from the holiday candy at Target (you know like M&M's and stuff). I am staying away from the holiday packaging (except for kisses the colors are desired.) This idea has already saved me $20! The candy will be just fine and taste a-okay. I'm already convinced that retail stores just stockpile what they don't sell and resell it the following year. Seriously this is a good idea! Try it if you are having a candy buffet!

I thought about this, but wasn't sure the candy would be ok by July... Does it have expiration dates?

There is a Web site that says how long candy is good for. Of course I can't find it now. Surprisingly most of it will stay fresh for like 6 months as long as it's sealed and in a cool, dry place.

Candy definately has expiration dates but I think you'll be ok as long as you follow them. No one likes stale candy. :0) I think you'll be fine though Saraann! Great savings.

PP's right ... be sure to check each candy's shelf life. The good news is most of it should last for a while. This came up on Budget Weddings a few weeks ago, and here are a couple of links to use:http://www.candyfavorites.com/shop/shelf-life.phphttp://www.scoops-scoops.com/candy_life.html

I think it's a great idea! I was thinking of doing this for my potential candy buffet because the wedding is in June and the colors are in some easter candy mixes. Keep in mind, there are certain candies that might get more stale than others. Gummy candies can get really hard after awhile, so be careful of that. Hard candies should be fine (I think) as long as they are sealed and they aren't anywhere too humid. I don't know much about chocolate...I think the kisses should be fine (again, if they are stored properly) but I would look it up to be sure. Happy candy hunting!

Thanks! I thought about the expiration too, that's why I stuck with good old hardy candy coated M&M's. I'll go for the more delicate stuff later... :)

According to Melissa's site, the M&Ms are good for 13mo! That's good, because I need just the green ones, which will be way easier to sort out from the Christmas mix, than the regular ones.

Just make sure it doesn't get all melty! And in case anyone was wondering, retail stores clearance the candy and then throw away whatever they don't get rid of in a certian time period. Don't ask me why.
