steaming

I plan on steaming my dress prior to leaving cleveland for vegas. I am carrying it on and expect  it to get a little wrinked. I am hoping the flight attendant will be nice and hang it in the closet for me or lay it on a empty seat.

I was going to have th dress steamed again in vegas, but it will cost around $100. And i would hate to spend that much for a couple of wrinkles if its not completely out of control

Would you still get it steamed professionally, or do it yourself? I was thinking of buying a handheld garment steamer for the small wrinkles im expecting. WWYD?

Re: steaming

  • After mrssmith post about paying $100 to have hers pressed, I think ro told me to steam. so i called all my friends and found one with a steamer. i'll be doing it myself.

  • im wondering is the shower trick will work too. my dress is all satin, no beading so the wrinkles will show easy. FI has a cousin who is a dry cleaner so he will steam it for free for me. I think they have steamers at target for pretty cheap.
  • I would just have it steamed once you get to Vegas and skip the steaming before you leave Cleveland.

I wore the same dress you have. I had it professionally steamed ($62....yikes) and they stuffed it. I took it straight to the venue the day before and left it in the bag so it wouldn't get dirty. It was a little wrinkled around the bottom and train, so my DOC steamed it while I was getting my makeup done. I was holding my breath the entire time because those personal steamers can spit water sometimes and that fabric would have shown some serious water spots. It turned out perfectly though. Being that you have to travel with yours, you should probably plan on having to steam it some. I will say, however, that it wrinkles across the lap after you sit down, so put your shoes on after your dress and don't sit or bend until after all your important pics are done. I didn't notice the lap wrinkles at the reception (and probably neither did anybody else) but it drove me crazy when I saw my reception proofs (I'm a spazz like that). Thankfully, my photographer was able to edit them out.

  • Hey my friend wrote back and said she went to a boutique in cleveland and had her dress steamed for cheap.. and then when she got to Vegas she had a few wrinkles so she ironed/steam them out her self because everyone in Vegas kept quoting her 100 bucks or more. So i quess you are in the same situation as her.. See what black friday sales they have on steamers, you will probably find something.. Hope this helps
