How Many Places?

Did you do a registry with?  Who has been (or was if you are married) the best Customer service experience?  The worst?

I need to start registering ASAP but I hear horror stories about Target and things not being available online for different dept. stores, so let me know what your experience has been ladies...

I just discussed this with my girlfriends over the weekend. If FI doesn't object, I don't plan to register anywhere. Just not looking forward to that at all...

I'm still a little over a year away, so I may change my mind, but I doubt it.

We did a destination wedding and got married in Vegas, most of the guests that came gave gift cards or sent gifts ahead of time.  We invited 140, had 85 show up.

    We registered at 3 places.

It was so much fun, not sure why people dread it so much.

Crate and Barrel (My favorite store - they did a registry event served us breakfast and mimosas while we scanned)

Target (didn't have any issues with things not being available or not being able to return items)

    Bed Bath and Beyond

My thoughts if something isn't available on one of your registries that's why you do multiple places so people can pick and choose. Also if you check your registry and see that items aren't available you can switch them out ahead of time.

I've hear good things about Kohls and Macy's registries too!

We aren't registering only because we are getting married in Vegas with about only 20 people and we don't plan on having a reception once we get back.  We are going to celebrate with eveyone in Vegas but if people want to bless us with a gift, that's great but we aren't going to register for any.

With that being said, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macys or Crate and Barrel seem to be some popular ones I've seen although I can't say much about their customer service.

I could go nuts in every store, I'm just not allowed to go in them very often now. I was going to work at CB part time for the holidays but decided I would never have any money if all the items were right there in front of me. LOL H doesn't understand, but he only came to one store with me and decided it was way overwhelming - but he doesn't like to shop at all.

I know just what you mean.  A friend of mine got a part time job at CB to pay for extra expenses for her wedding last year and I'm not sure if she really made any money because of all the temptation.

I'm like that with Macys.  To me its even worse because there's household stuff AND clothes, makeup, etc.  In fact I put myself on restriction from my Macys charge.  I gotta pay that baby down.

We registered at 3 places.  We did Bed, Bath, & Beyond for our bedroom and bathroom stuff.  Macy's for fine china, and kitchen stuff.  Sears for FI's household tools.  We tried to do a registry at Home Depot but it was manual.  Like you had to write down all the skus and wait for the store clerk to put manually put them all in before you could get a printout.  AND the registery CANNOT be viewed from the internet, you have to go into the store.  That just didn't work out for us b/c 90% of our guests are from out of town and we didn't want them to have to go into the store if they didn't want to.

We did Macy's and Bed Bath and Beyond. Didn't have problems with either. We received mostly cash and gift cards at the wedding though. We went back to do the registry completion at Macy's and I must say that I was impressed with their customer service.  We managed to get additional discounts

We only registered at Crate and Barrel. I didn't find very many items at a second store to justify a second list, especially since we had such a small guest list. We selected a small number of items (about 60) for our 64 person guest list.  We received a lot of cash at the wedding, but also got a decent number of items from the registry. CB has AMAZING customer service. They were able to tell us when certain items were expected to be delivered and also tried to help us track down the purchaser of items that didn't have a card that accompanied them.

We registered at Macys, Target, and Kohls. Kohls presented some problems for my guests. For one they never removed bought items from my list or listed them as purchased so a few of my guests bought us the same thing from that same registry. Macy's was great and I love the fact that they give the guests a print out that says gift from "guest" those that purchased from there taped theirs to their gift or inserted it with their card this made it easy to identify who bought what and from where.

CB can track the purchasers of online gifts, but not the in-store purchases.  We have the gift in question because it was purchased in a store.  There is a gift receipt and we know where it was purchased, but don't know who. Hopefully I will find out so that I can send the acknowledgement.

    Ladies,

When is a good time to set these up?  My wedding is a little over a year from now (Dec '12) and I don't want to start TOO early.

I am registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Macy's. I may register at target b/c they send me a coupon for $20 gift card if I do. I didn't start registering until last month. I don't think you want to register too soon because some things may become available. Maybe a good time to start would be late spring or in the summer depending on how much you need and how many places you plan to register.

I got married in August and setup mine in December. That was a little too early because I had to keep updating it. At least a month or two at the most before you shower/wedding would be nice.

I registered at Target, Macy's and Bed Bath and Beyond.  The customer service at Macy's and BB&B was great.  I registered online with Target and really wish I hadn't because I didn't see a need at the point but had already created the registry.  I'm getting married in June of next year and we registered at the beginning of Oct.  I wanted to get it done prior to sending out the Save the Dates b/c the registry information is on our wedding website.

We did 2 Macy's and Bed, Bath and Beyond. Had no problems with either and both were great with customer service.  I loved my Macy's associate she sent us emails if things were being discontinued on our registry and she called us and sent an email the Monday after the wedding to say congrats.

Same here... FI wanted to do 3... but we don't need that much stuff.. and there is no need for all of that!

Plus.. I'm the type of person that actually wants to go and pick out half the stuff that would be on the registry for myself!..lol
