POLL: Favors

What did/are you giving for favors?  I'm in a bind.  I hate the ones I got (long story, some already know the history) because I'm kind of a perfectionist but then my mom is upset that I want to get similar but different ones (longer story).  I could do something totally different that are related to how FI and I met, are bit more practical, but I personally am not entirely keen on the thought of them.

We're not doing them. Even if we were local, we probably wouldn't have done anything other than *maybe* truffles from a local candy shop. Oh, or Mountain Bars from the Almond Roca factory here in town - b/c I heart them. If ppl are just giving out random favors (looking at you, weddingfavors.com), then I think it's pointless. If you have something that really is personal and speaks to you as a couple, then I understand - but it's still not a necessity, and not something I'd spend a lot of time/money on.

Our dinner menu includes a dessert and since were serving cake - they are making an assortment of cookies for us and putting them in cute little take-out boxes.  We also are having a fotobooth that prints double strips with our wedding logo attached the one they keep, so I guess if we change our minds about the cookies - this would be our favor.

We aren't doing them so maybe I'm sorta biased to not doing them. My thought is, how many favors have you kept from weddings? I usually leave mine on the table. The only things I take are the paper goods because I like to look at them to see their ideas. Or candy. I know that you are a perfectionist but do you think others will notice? Maybe you can scatter the bad ones to the tables that are further out that you know your close friends and family will sit at. I definately think you could use them. Although, the second idea is adorable but not sure if you'd have tons left over. :0)Champagne, what did you do???? :0)

Wait, what's the second option? I remember the first one, but I must've somehow missed the 2nd. I think we're just going to go with candy buffet. It's the first idea FI actually liked. The things we thought of that are meaningful are too impractical (too expensive, melty in the late July heat).

We have a small head count which allowed us to do favors. I didn't think we'd be able to, but it worked out. We decided to use the theme "these are a few of our favorite things" we carried it through with our dinner menu and favors. We are doing a box with our theme saying on the tag. Inside is a small bag (enough for one pot)of our favorite coffe beans from Starbucks, Verona flavor, his fav candy is Reese's Pieces so we'll have a small bag of those, and mine is Dove Chocolates. I was able to personalize the wrappers on Dove's website. I figure with coffee and candy we can't go wrong.

GLORIA!! Where have you been!??    Kare - that seriously is abso-freaking-loutely adorable!  And totally perfect!   Sara - Candy buffet...so cute to see the parents and grandparents excited about it!   So, the candle holders I got, of 100 that I ordered with a custom design, 20 my mom had to bring back and exchanged for ones of totally different designs.  Of the 80 with the lotus flower, 20 of those look like a 5 year old carved at least 1 side of the two.  Of the remaining 60, 30 of them have either one or both sides with designs that are abnormally small or large.  I can get my cousins to bring over ones that I know will look good (since they will be for retail sale) The second option I've already nixed.  Just not too keen on the idea.  Mousepad because we met on the internet.  :P

I am not doing favor and I am quite thrilled to not have to spend the money or worry about them. I honestly would rather spend money else- were. We are doing many other persoanlized items so I don't feel like they'll be missed. I have been to many weddings without them. GL! :)

We're not doing favors either...I've never kept or used any.  If I change my mind, I'd do coffee b/c we met at Starbucks.  Love the hot chocolate bar idea!

We're doing edible favors, since those are the kind I like best.  I'm torn between cupcakes (involved in our proposal story) or these sea-salt caramels that one of our friends makes (what we had for dessert on our first "fancy" date).

I think you should go with your original favors. Honestly, the more unique, the better. I think it's so charming that they're hand-carved and the "bad" ones are kind of the ones I'd want the most!On the flip side--no one cares about favors. And even if you candles are perfect and super awesome--they will not care or remember. I will promise you that you're going to get to a point in your planning, close to your wedding, where you're going to look back at all the things you wasted money on and think about how dumb it was. (I know because I am so there right now!)Anyway my $0.02

Tygirl- I've been nose in the books ever since the wedding was over.  DH is out of town, so I'm being a lazy bachelorette for a couple days and sneaking back onto the Knot.  :)  I'll try and get some more pics out, but I just got them!  Our photographer had pneumonia and was out of commission . . .  :(Your candles sound so unique, though!  We gave away coffee at our wedding and made a little sign that said, "The perfect blend."  But all our guests are adults, so it was appropriate (except a few youngsters that were younger than 4).

I personally am not really a big fan of favors.  However, I decided to do them.  I am making votive roses.  I figure my guests can take them apart and burn the candle or keep them.  All said and done for 100 of them I spent around 50.00.  I would be willing to help you get the supplies and put them together if you are interested.Angela

We're doing tea & cookies. We found a wholesaler who has nice looking tins for a couple of bucks each, and then we'll DIY the cookies and get sheer bags for a little bit of loose tea.

Niq :P Stealing my wedding reception for your favors? :DSo...I had planned on not doing them. Then I came across these abso-freaking-cute little bird bowls on one of my fav blogs from an Etsy vendor. Well, my mom just happens to be an incredibly talented ceramics artist, so I sent the link to her and said, "what do you think?" She's now making them as we speak and I LOVE them. They are clay, impressed with lace pattern, then shaped into a flattish bowl, made as tea bag holders. Since we're having tea reception, they can use it at the reception and take it home with them.

We were actually thinking about doing loose leaf tea as well. FI is a big time tea drinker. But, you know, our wedding is a whole year away, so things can change.

We are doing truffles from a local choclatier in Leavenworth.  They are amazing and surprisingly inexpensive.  I think they come out to be $1.13 a piece and I only need 100 of them.  And who doesn't love a chocolate truffle locally made? ;)

I have really struggled with this, but I think that I finally figured it out. For the kids: Mini old fashioned red gumball machines filled with gum balls in green and white. For the adults: Clear boxes filled with three homemade cookies (chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and caramel pecan), and wrapped with a brown ribbon and sealed with some sort of cool decal in our colors. Also, we will have a table by the exit that has rows of popcorn boxes filled with caramel and chocolate covered popcorn that guests can grab as they head home as a midnight snack.

As as a gift: I bought 2pc confections (lavendar/caramel and early gray) from Theo for my best friends wedding a few weeks ago. They were a big hit, pricey but for a small wedding-well worth it.

I LOVE the hot cocoa bar idea, by the way. I really, really loved these homemade marshallow favors I saw somewhere but they don't really fit my July wedding. It would be beyond adorable to have marshmallow favors at each place setting, and then the hot cocoa bar!

We did mini chocolates (the Hershey, Krackel, etc) with wrappers that my mom made that have our picture on them and little sayings on the back. Plus, hubby got truffles from Nordstrom (he works for corporate, so he got a good discount on them), and they were all in separate little silver boxes tied with silver bows. Everyone loved them!

Tygirl I can totally relate to not liking the quality of your favors, but I think your guests will love them. Our favors were not at all what we expected when we received them. We had a local glassblower make custom vases in our colors and then had the florist fill them will flowers for our centerpieces and then each guest got to take one home as their favor. I think we gave a little too much artistic freedom, as the final product looked nothing like the samples that were made for us. We were so upset at first that we almost didn't use them. We decided that nobody but us would know they didn't look like what we wanted. Sure enough, everyone loved them! I think the imperfections add to the charm of your favors!
