Birth Control

Hey ya'll kinda a TMI question but I pick up my b/c today. Is it true that I can't start taking it until after my period. Sorry but as a "waiting" bride this is my first experience with all this. Also if I am getting married in August will we need back up b/c?

You should start taking the BC the Sunday after your period begins. If you are getting married in August, I would strongly recommend a back up method unless you want to start a family right away.  It takes a couple of months for the hormones to work in your body.  You will also need to take your pills daily because if you miss 2-3 days you can still get pregnant, no matter how long you have been taking the pill (according to my OB).

The benefit for me is that my period starts at the same time of the month, I have no cramps, and my period is shorter. I take a low hormone pill thanks to my Black Female OB, Lo Ogestrol.

You should start taking your pill the Sunday after your menstural cycle. Even if you still have a cycle, start taking your pill. Also, your pill takes effect after the first seven days. You will not need a back up method in August.  You may want to consult your doctor or your pharmacist.  I always thought you had to have a back up method and my doctor told me different.  I take Ortho-Tri Cylcen Lo and it is written on the pack.  I hope this helps.

I am also waiting and just started BC two weeks ago the Sunday after my period started. I started Loestrin 24 and so far no side effects.

After reading this thread I have a question:
My wedding is not until October 22, 2011 and I don't want to start a family for at least 4 years. I should be fine by the time of the wedding right? Or should we use a backup method?

    i'm a "waiting" bride too!!
i'm taking lo-estrin 24 & have been since 2009 - i've got some other lady issues going on & birth control was option to help curb them.
based on all your feedback, i should probably use some back-up...haven't tested the pills for the purpose of birth control.

So no side effects at all? Wow, maybe I should look into that one! I think Jolessa is the genric of one the 3 month b/c. Anyone on the 3 month no period kind? I'm kinda nervous...nice to know there are other brides like me on the board. You guys are awesome always so helpful and informative.
