New to the board

Hi Ladies,
I jut joined the board. This is all new to me as I have just started to plan for our bid day. I have only couple  of motnhs so I am gonna have to work double , triple times to make sure everything is ready for September. By the way, I live in Canada. Is there any canadians here? I joined that site because we don't really have something like that here in Canada, so please adopt me!!!!
I am very scared as I am start planning for my day and I feel lonely!!!!

    Dont stress...I know that it is hard but what I would say do first is figure out your budget.

    There is a checklist here on The Knot that you can look at and it will basically tell you where you need to be. I think as long as you follow the list, you will be ok.

    Ladies,
    Here is our main isue as FI and I are trying to figure out our budget. Drinks is the main concern. The prices for drinks are very high and all the drinks have to be purchsed on site. We cannot bring anything from outside. A friend of mine went to a wedding last July and told me that alcoholic punch was offered during the reception, wine during dinner and each guest was given a ticket to buy one drink of their choice later on during the evening. IIf people want to drink more after that, they had to pay for themselves as there was a cash bar. I like this formula and I think it could fit in our budget. I don't want to appear cheap but at the same time, we cannot afford to have people drink as much as they want otherwise it would be a chaos for us money wise. Have you ever heard of that formula (meaning one ticket for a free drink late on in the evening, punch during cocktail and wine during dinner). Have you ever been to a wedding where people had that formula? what did you think of it as a guest? what are you guys doing at your wedding? are you letting people drink for as much as you want and pay for it?
    Please give me your advice and suggestions.

    Congratulations to you, I've been viewing this forum for a while and recently became a little more active and the ladies here a very welcoming and are great for picking their heads for advice and suggestions. You definitely shouldn't hesitate to post anything that you want to share on this board, its a lovely group of ladies who are in the process or have been there and done that and can give you guidance.

    Welcome and congrats!  As far as the "formula" you posted, I believe I have been to a wedding like that and, since you can tell I cannot really remember, I think it is fine:)   I have def been to a cash bar wedding and to open bar weddings.  FI and I are doing open bar as the price we received is excellent for our area.  As far as which you should do, i say def go with what you and FI are comfortable with. No one is really going to remember if you had open or cash bar.  I say go with what you two are most comfortable with...mentally and financially.

    Welcome to the board! As for your drink situation, do what you can afford. I'm having no alcohol at our reception for a number of reasons but the ladies here are helpful and will definitely be able to help you out.

    We were fortunate enough to find a venue where an open bar was includes. So we got the coctail hour, 5 hour open bar, food & even an ice sculpture for all one price.

    But do what you can afford. Dont go bankrupt. Maybe do a limited bar with just wine and beer.

    Welcome to the Board! 

    We're not having any alcohol except champagne.  All of the beverages will be non-alcoholic.  But if you want to serve alcohol, you might want to consider just wine and beer.
