Engagement Party Ideas?

Hi Ladies. My family will be hosting an engagement party for my FI and I to celebrate with our nearest and dearest. The thing is, they want my input and quite frankly...I want to give it! :) I know "etiquette" dictates that I should be hands off, but this is not about gifts and is all about making sure that my mom is not stressed and that my guests have a ball. I really want it to be unique and personal, but need a starting point. With that said...any suggestions for having a fabulous engagement party? I don't remember ever attending one...just showers and b-parties.

I think that it is great that your family is throwing you an engagement party and that they are accepting your input.  I think that it is perfectly ok for you to offer it if they ask.  I went to a cute e-party once where the theme was sex and the kitchen and everyone had to bring a gift that had something to do with the theme.  That probably wouldn't be appropriate in your case, but it was a cute party nonetheless.  They just rented out a restaurant.  A former knottie had a great e-party and she rented out a venue in downtown raleigh, hired a live band and served heavy hors'deuvres.  If I were going to do one I would probably rent out an art museum, hire a live band that played a mix of neo soul and old r&B hits and just serve desserts and champagne.  You could also do a wine and cheese and hire a wine expert or do a fun cocktail party.

Great ideas...you and that art museum! LOL...it would be awesome though. Thanks for the suggestions. I never even thought about the wine/cheese or champagne/dessert options, maybe because I'm so greedy, but they sound super sexy. My mom will love them.

I had an EParty last September. one year to that date. It was amazing. Since we are getting married Labor Day weekend. the party was on that Saturday. We had a BBQ, The food was on point. We played games and I gave out little jars of BBQ sauce as favors

So you guys are getting married in March a nice restaurant would nice, also a cocktail party would be nice

@Eagles347, girl, I am stuck on the art museum idea!  LOL.  Yeah, I actually feel you on the greedy thing.  MRsJJohnson2B's idea of a BBQ sounds good to me too.  But you could do the wine and cheese theme and do that in the beginning and then serve dinner at the end or cocktails and tapas.  That could be filling depending on what you serve.
