African American Weddings

AHR 1 year later

We have been married for a year. I dont necessary have to have a reception but I know my husband does (a lot of his extended family werent able to make it). My thing is this I told him  if we do this we really shouldnt expect any gifts/money, etc. Anyways not disguise anything he wants to party and he wants gifts montary in nature. So anyways im gonna send out invites but he wants me to put something about a wishing well or have our registry on there...I really DONT  want to do that, but everytime I try to explain etiquette to him....He does not get it and state that how white people do it" He gets really upset when I tell him thats not the right way to do it...so....how can I word this without being tacky. I dont even want to call it a reception i want to call it a celebration...I need help on how to handle this..

Thanks:)

Congrats! I remember when you got married!!
    thats a hard call
I found this poem I hope it works

"If you were thinking of giving a gift, to help us on our way.
A gift of cash towards our house, would really make our day.
However, if you prefer to purchase a gift, feel free to surprise us in your own way."

Congratulations again..... Mmmmmm.. This is a tough one.... I dont think I would put anything in the invitation...undoubtedly... when you send the invitation itself.. your guests are going to reach out to you and ask you what you need and thats your opportunity to tell them monetary gifts or what-have-you... but I dont think I would put anything in the reception invitation a year later.... I hope that helps you ... Its just my opinion... I'm sure you'll make the best decision for you.
