First Dance Song

Hello ladies,

I was brainstorming some first dance songs and I wanted to dance off something not everyone and their grandmother and great grandmother danced off of. Something sweet sentimental and about love of course but not the usual wedding songs (i.e. Babyface, Brian McKnight).  Then I heard the perfect one when I popped in Monica's new CD. I love her and her voice...the girl can SAANNGG!!! What do you divas think about "Love All Over Me"?

Let me know of any other "different" unpredictable first dance songs that you have heard of or witnessed.

I love that song!!! The radio kinda plays it too much but I haven't seen it done in a wedding before!

For our first dance I have a few songs on my list:
    April Shower by Dru Hill
    Sweetest Love by Robin Thicke
Closer I Get To You the Beyonce and Luther version
    Our Love by Mary J

That's all I can think of right now..... I don't have my notebook. You made me realize how extensive my list is, I need to make some music decisions ASAP

I like it!  I had never heard it before reading your post.  I usually only listen to Talk Radio.

I know what you mean about finding an unpredictable first dance song.  I couldn't come up with one, so we just went with Don't Change by Musiq Soulchild, very predictable.  But I love the words of the song nonetheless.  We were originally going to go with Couldn't Love You More by Sade, and I love that song, but I figured if people are going to be looking at me and DH dancing (and we are horrible dancers), we should have a song with lyrics that people can enjoy.  The Sade song doesn't have too many lyrics.

I think that if you went with a timeless classic or a not so recent remake of a classic, that could be considered unpredictable, because most people may actually expect you to dance to a popular song on the radio.  One song that a knottie on here danced to that I love is "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele, it was originally recorded by Bob Dylan.   I wanted to dance to that song but DH didn't like one of the lyrics.  Another one that I absolutely love that another fellow knottie is dancing to is "You Were Meant for Me" by Donnie Hathaway.  Love, love, love anything by Donnie Hathaway.

You may want to consider doing a search on this board and other boards to get inspiration.  I ran across some pretty cool ideas, but unfortunately none of them really worked for us, but maybe you'll have better luck.  GL.

TamTam, I LOVED "To Make You Feel My Love" but one of the lines in the lyrics was a bit off... I agreed with your DH, so we eliminated that one.

We ended up choosing between "When You Say Nothing At All" by Ronan Keating which is fairly modern & "It Had To Be You" by Harry Connick Jr. which is kind of old school.

In the end, we chose It Had To Be You, and it was PERFECT! Everyone was very surprised that it wasn't a more modern R&B song or something like that. and the lyrics were perfect for us :)

In the end though, IMO, as long as you and you FI like the song & the lyrics are perfect, it doesn't matter if its very traditional or non-traditional. GL!!!

Oh my goodness I looooove Harry Connick Jr.  I want to listen to that song right now.  Yeah, DH didn't like the line where she says, I know you haven't made your mind up yet but I will never do you wrong.  He's like, why wouldn't you have made your mind up yet.  So, we didn't go with it.  Another one I liked was Here There Everywhere by The Beatles, but he wasn't a fan.

I agree with Amberlynned though, if it's special to you and your FI then it will be beautiful
