Bridal Makeup

I've been looking around for a MUA but it's been difficult to find someone that works well with my skin tone and is in budget.

What is everyone doing for makeup the day of? Hiring a professional? Using a friend? DIY?

Re: Bridal Makeup

  • I got my hair and makeup done at Ulta - it came out under $100.
  • I hired a professional.  It was my most difficult vendor search throughout the planning process but after going through three trials, I finally found the right one and I was really happy with the outcome.  I paid $150.

This is exactly what I'm experiencing! I've had to just ask flat out if the MUA artist works with and has samples of their work with black women. One MUA I won a free trial with did a great job but is waaaay too much!

saharnshard - i don't think i could trust any of the MUA at the ULTAs near me :-(
  • I'm trying to figure that out myself.  Because my wedding is in the morning and destination, I do not have the luxury of getting trials before the wedding.  So, I'm looking for great makeup that will not be heavy  or have me shining (like I'm brand new).  I truly may buy an airbrush makeup kit and do it myself, I have time to learn and I get to keep everything.

ROTFL!!!  yolie you don't wanna look like a fashion fair copper penny?

This is gonna be my struggle as well.  that and I don't know how much the price range should be, does it depend how long she works?  how far she travels? what?

I will say though, that especially for our range of tones, what has worked best for me in the past was going into a mall, finding and finding a sister working at a make up counter.  It shouldn't make a difference but the woman who understands what I should look like - it helps a lot, if she looks like me.
  • I am hiring two MUAs. One that will work on me and the other will do the BMs and the moms. The second one is a lot less than the first one because he is new to the city and trying to grow his business. His work is really good.

  • I may just do mine, myself...I was trying for the life of me to remember the name of this girl that did hair and makeup,mi found her website on Dallasblack.com some months back.....she was not expensive at all, I think she charged 40.00 at that time for application without lashes, like just for a night out or everyday....dang it, what was her name????......

  • My hairdresser is doing my hair. now what we are going to do with it is another question. I hired a MUA that I found at a bridal show to do my makeup. She charged 30 for the trail and 60 for the day so a total of $90. I was going to have hr do my daughters' but they said they want to do their own. Fine with me, more money in the pocket.

Texas ladies, we need to meet up sometime....I didn't know.
  • Right now I'm dyi. Every time I try a MUA, they do my makeup really wrong and I say forget it and just do it myself. One of my BM was an MUA and my MOH wants me to ask her to do it, but I have not decided if I'm going this route yet.

  • My cousin is doing mine. We are going to go to the store to pick out the right shades for my skin tones. She is also willing to do my BMs as long as they have their own make up.
