NWR

Um, so because the US credit rating has dropped, stocks are plunging like crazy.

I agree. Mine took a serious hit, H doesn't even want to know what his looks like right now. But remember you're in it for the long haul. You haven't realized the loss until you cash out, which is what is keeping me sane right now.

The point we are in right now is so scary. I just can't believe people can't set aside their differences for the better of the country. To me either side needs to get it together. This is awful. Not even excited for the campaign commercials that will be produced because of this mess.
Agreed.. And I do realize being in it for the long haul, but I swear when I see a consistent decrease in my balance, I really get the urge to stop or lower my contribution level until the storm passes. Like, why put so much in when it is going directly in the toilet?? I think I'm even more pissy about this because I've been scouring my wedding budget and that alone is starting to make me cranky. There has to be a point where I just say I've spent all I'm going to spend and this wedding is what it is! I feel like I'm reaching the point where the ends no longer justify the means.. I'm just saying no to personalized everything and saving my damn money for my emergency fund!!!!!!!!!! Ok, rant over. sigh.
    Posted by empegues
Breathe!!! I know exactly how you're feeling. I find that the crankiness comes in waves.

We didn't personalize anything. I wanted it so much, but I like you see the emergency fund dwindling and in order to save my sanity something had to give. No one will know what you did or didn't order. Make another list of what you really want personalized and what you could skip or that at all the weddings you've attended you didn't even realize until someone pointe it out to you.
You are so right! It does come in waves. Ugh. When I first started planning I wanted to keep it simple, but then you think "well, I'll only get married once, I might as well do it big"... but now I'm like, I don't need personalized water bottle labels that will go in the trash instantly. I don't need every decoration idea that's caught my eye because I'm starting to think more about how much it will cost than how much enjoyment I'll get out of using them. I'm definitely scaling back again because I want to come out of this wedding with money still in the bank. lol.

Girl I so hear you. I have dreamed of my wedding for so long and wanted to do it BIG but then I realized. I would rather have the money to spend on my marriage then on my wedding. I have scaled back considerably. If I can buy something or even DIY something for a reasonable price then I will. If not then I won't. Really as long as I get my man, my dress, and my shoes. (In that order) on my wedding day I will be happy. The rest is just icing.

Awe girl I am sending some (((HUGS))), sunshine, prayer, and love your way! Your day will get better. I just know it will. God's joy will not stay away from His children long even though the enemy may try. As the good book says weeping may endure for the night but JOY comes in the morning. Oh and the offer to come punch someone in the face if needed is still open. Love you sis!

Ladies this right here is just another reason why we can not rely on our jobs to provide for us. How scary is that to put money aside in a 401K or a pension and in a flash it could all be gone. It's so scary because you can't not put money into these types of accounts yet you can't 100% count on them either.

We dont actually contribute to our pension...Sony puts the money in there for us (no option to contribute)...they say its one of the best pensions to have....well, not really if it can be hit too...

I would like to be able to contribute to something BUT at the same time, the way things are, is that REALLY something that I want to do?

My BFF lost SOOOOOOOOO MUCH of her 401K the last time stocks dropped...I felt so bad for her...

You can always open up your own account. Like PP said. They are for the long haul. It might be down today but in 10, 15, 20 years who knows where it will be. If you open up your own IRA (I think that is what it is called) account you have control of how much you put in and how diversified it will be. The people working those accounts know that "regular folk" like us are scared so they will be willing to sit down with you and explain everything. It is up to us to do all we can to protect our future and once we have done all we can it releases God to do the rest.
    Good luck!

I love everything you ladies said. I agree with it all.

About the wedding... I have been trying to keep my "real" goggles on and keep in mind stuff costs money and it is just one day. With that being said I am only personalizing the apple cider bottles with a label. I dont want to buy anything too extra because number one what am I going to do with a massive closet of wedding stuff after. AND who wants to buy items that say Kindra & Dave 2012? haha..

So my thoughts are to keep it classy, but simple. True what PP said about the people who will talk. I just saw pics on Faacebook of a wedding ( my aunt's other side) and I was like WHAT were they thinking. It wasn't my type of event but my aunt RAVED about how much fun she had and how in love they looked. So I guess if she could have fun ( she knows the quality of events I like) then people will have a blast at our wedding. LOL

I would say save what you can. Make good purchasing decisions in life ( not just wedding related) and forget keeping up with the Joneses.. because the Joneses are going bankrupt and their house is in foreclosure!

This board is great! Every time I feel disappointed about something I come here and find out I am not alone. At work yesterday we watched Obama address our credit rating issue and for the first time I rolled my eyes. Don't get me wrong he has a hard job and I understand but I'm just annoyed.

My company matches my contributions so anytime I lose money I make myself feel better by saying that was the company's half anyway.
