Deb dress as my wedding dress

Since I recently got proposed to and I have had so many things dancing around in my head and the biggest is the dress. I was a 2008 Deb for Jack and Jill of America Inc. and the dress I wore was bought by my grand mother and given to my sister in hopes she would use it for her wedding but when she didn't my mom and I reconstructed the dress for me to be presented as a Deb. my mother has always talked about me wearing it when I get married because that's tradition.
I still fit the dress but I feel it is a bit dated and while I like the dress and I don't want to disappoint tradition I can't help but want a more up to date designer dress. The compromise I'm thinking is wear the original dress to the ceremony/pictures/ cocktail hour and my new updated dress to the reception. Any thoughts?

  • I think that is a great compromise! Your deb dress is gorgeous! what dress are you thinking of wearing for your reception dress? Are you getting married in Baton Rouge? Where are you going shopping for your dress?
  • I think it looks the opposite of dated. if it's even possible to wear a dress that was worn more than a decade ago (i'm assuming) that means it timeless. there are some styles that may not be appear "popular" or "trendy" but won't ever go out of style. Trick that out with a veil and jewlery to deff and bam, I'd wear that in a heartbeat. only modification i'd make is the neckline (but that's personal, i'm not a straight across kinda girl).
  • The dress is beautiful. That being said your compromise works.

Thank all of you for the compliments about my dress. :-) I'm really gaudy so my designer of choice is Baracci. They designed the dress beyonce wore in the "best thing I never had" video. The boutique is in Los Angeles and I have family there so if I don't buy one used I plan on going out there to get one. I provided a picture of the style of dresses they design. I'm not planning on getting married in Baton Rouge but in Houston my hometown.
