African American Weddings

We added the open bar!

FI and I had originally planned a dry reception because we are getting married on a Sunday afternoon. (for most people that means right after church).... everything will be over by 7 pm.  However, after talking about it more, we decided to just go for it.  Full open bar. Yay!   People drink on Sundays, right?

If you attended a wedding on a Sunday afternoon/early evening.... would you expect there to be alcohol served?  Would you be put off if there wasn't any?

If its someone in my family I would expect an open bar even on a Sunday because that's the way they are.

Outside of that ifI attended a wedding on a Sunday afternoon I wouldn't expect a full open bar. I would think that they may possibly do a signature drink, sangria, champagne, and wine type of thing.

I think you are safe either way...I wouldn't expect an open bar on a Sunday afternoon like I would for a Friday or Saturday evening wedding. Congrats though...I'm sure some of your guests will be happy about that!

people drink on sundays. you and your Fi have the open bar, and you leave it to your guest if they want to drink or not.

<div>This is exactly what I was thinking.  I was considering a signature drink or just wine and beer, but it might not appeal to the masses.  Open bar allows everyone to get what they want or nothing at all.  There will still be all the non-alcoholic stuff available.</div><div>
</div><div>My mother will flip when she finds out about the alcohol.  Her eyes got big when I told her about the DJ and dancing.  We are both 45+ and paying for this ourselves, so Mommy doesn't get a say!  Lol! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" /></div>

I wouldn't necessarily expect it either, but I would be happy to know that there's an open bar.  At least it gives your guests the option.

People who drink will drink on any day of the week....especially if its on somebody else's tab....lol. I've only been to 1 wedding on a Sunday & will be attending another one in May. Open bar for both weddings. So it depends on the crowd.

I wouldn't expect an open bar on a Sunday afternoon, but like the PPs said - there will always be folks who will take advantage of free liquor any day of the week!  :)

We haven't signed the revised contract yet.... the more I think about it, maybe we don't need FULL open bar.  Perhaps wine, beer and a martini bar or margarita bar??

We're doing a wine & beer bar, along with a margarita bar! We just decided yesterday. I got that idea because I had a georgia peach margarita from Cheesecake Factory last Sat. It was so good....lol.

I think a beer, wine, and martini or margarita bar is more than enough!

I totally agree with this - no one expects the full bar, and what you mention above will be great.  Spend the extra money elsewhere or save it!  :)
