Seating chart YES or NO?

Ladies,
Did or are you making a seating chart for your reception?  If so are you doing by table or are you actually assigning an exact chair?  If not how many guest are you having?  Please add the why and why not too.  Thanks.

I am making a seating chart.  I am assigning tables, not chairs.  The chart will be in alphabetical order. I am having 175 guests.

So I have 125 guests and I plan on assigning tables not exact seats.  I cannot decide if I should have cards or just have my hostesses tell people where they are sitting and then have my little nephew escorts (they are in middle school) escort people to their tables.

I think it might be too confusing and taking too long without name cards...

My Fi has already made a seating chart for his people...

I just decided on a seating chart last week, originally I was going to go with escort cards but didn't want people bunched up at the table looking for their names. So I'm putting a HUGE seating chart at the entrance on an easel and let people find their names (alphabetical order).

We are designing tables (not exact seats) by family then friends... so family table will be closest to us (tables 2-7) and friends, coworkers, etc tables (8-14). I tried to sit our REALLY close friends as close to the family as possible.

Another note: To get people not to complain and moan about "not getting good seats" when me and the FI do our rounds, we are going to the further tables first.

We're doing assigned seating for our seating chart. The meal is plated and we really want to make sure the people receive the corret meal. You know how people get forgetful and try to switch up at the last minute.

Small a** wedding means no seating chart.  lol.  In other words no, but if I had more than 30 people, I would.  I would do it alphabetically, so guests would know what to look for.

We are doing one and just assigning the tables with escort cards which will also have the meal choice designated on them which is the only reason we aren't doing a chart.

I think im going to have people sit at certain tables.
At my table, it is going to be me, my then husband, my parents, his parents, maid and matron of honor with their dates. the Best men and their dates.
table 2 will be the brides maids with their dates
Table 3 will be the grooms men with their dates.
Table 4 will be the ushers.
the rest of the guests can sit where they want to.

I have been debating about seating charts, but given I will have at least 200 guests it is probably better for everyone if I do some type of seating - I'm really not sure how to go about it because my guests will be seated at their table during the ceremony. I won't do seats, however I think I will seat based on family -> organizations -> ??? shoot this stuff confuses me! lol

Yes...There will be assigned tables, but not actual seats.

I did it for organizational purposes...and b/c I fell in love with my stationer's seating chart designs. So I REALLY wanted a seating chart displayed at our cocktail hour.

I don't think there is really a tutorial (I could be wrong). I just new that we were doing tables of 8 or 10 and started putting people together that I knew would want to sit together. Its a bit confusing and time consuming.

I am a huge proponent of seating charts. I even do them for birthday parties because I LOVE place cards and escort cards.  From a logistic standpoint, it is a huge time saver. Since the decision is made for people, it eliminates a person's desire to deliberate on where to sit.

All that said, I am assigning tables and seats at tables.  if everyone we invite shows up the wedding we will have 68 guests.  We are doing long tables that will be in a U Shape on both sides of the room.  The tables will frame the dancefloor and the sweetheart table will be in the center of both sets of tables right in front of the fireplace that is the focal point of the room.

Since our wedding is intimate, we know all of our guests really well and most people know a good number of the guests so there will be no issues with people not liking their assigned seat.

One easy way to assign tables is to use paper plates (for round tables) or small pieces of cardboard for rectangle or square king tables.  Write the names of your guests on post its (I like the strip ones that are rectangular in shape) and place them around the "table."  If you need to move people, simply move the post it.

I am using www.zazzle.com to make my seating chart.  A huge poster will cost me 18 bucks and I bought a frame from Michael's a few weeks ago for 20 when they had a 50% off sale.  I love that they have so many different fonts, I'm doing a vintage wedding so the Art Deco fonts they offered came in handy and not everyone has that font. I am just finalizing my list and table assignments, but it takes just a week to get it so I plan to place the order in the next two weeks.

I think we will be doing a seating chart by tables not seats. I will be using weddingwire's seating chart to help me figure out where they will be seating.  We are expecting 175 guests.  I want to insure that the families with children don't get split up too far away from their kids.  FI has a large immediate family.
