My Dress Problem-----it's all my fault! :(

A few weeks ago I went to the bridal boutique for alterations.  Bustle hem, fix a zipper and for it to be taken out along the sides.  Today I go back and the bustle hem is great, zipper is fine, but it doesn't feel like they took it out at all!!!! The dress fits well, but I can't sit down comfortably.... it's way to tight when I sit.  I can't have all eyes on me and I can't sit down without looking like I am in pain!!!! The lady said they took it out, but my mother and I believe they didn't take it out as much as they stated.  When we were last there a couple weeks ago two seamstress were helping us at different times.  One placed the pins in my dress then another came out and move the pins further apart.  So the lady says she can make it work and I can come back on Tuesday.  I am so afraid she wont be able to take it out enough. My mom told me don't worry and  I just have to believe they can do it.  While going home I am crying saying it's all my fault because when I purchased the dress I never sat down to see how it felt.  My mother never wanted me to get the dress.  I am thinking maybe I should of listen to my mother and maybe I shouldn't of purchase a dress so fitted.  Now I am thinking I may have to buy another dress.  My aunt and uncle purchase this dress for me.  I don't want to spend money that I really don't have for another dress and at this point I would probably have to go to David's Bridal to get a dress on short notice.  Please pray for me that my dress will be perfect next week when I go back!!! :(

Here is my dress http://www.allurebridals.com/Store_ProductDetail.aspx?pid=77DhG6264877e1h67FDD

Here are pictures of me in my dress when I purchased it last year.

  • Hello Fellow Allure Bride, first let me say, I absolutely love your dress and I think it looks great on you. I also have a fitted dress and now that I think about it, I can't remmeber if I tried sitting on  in it. Gotta do that when I have my fitting on Saturday!!! So pain? like oh my God I am going to die?

I agree with your  mom, the seamstress say they could let it out, so wait until that time before thinking you need a new dress.

I would also say, if it doesn't work (and I am sure it will), wear the dress for your ceremony and then get a second party dress. That should be way cheaper than a whole new wedding gown.

Keep us posted! I am sure it will all work out (HUGS)

It just is uncomfortable when sittings and I can hardly move. Please try sitting in yours on Saturday! I pray you don't have the same issue. I don't know why they don't suggest you see how it feels when sitting in those type of dresses. I guess I should of thought about it.

You have giving me knew hope that it will all work out. At one point before all this my mom and I discussed getting another dress for the reception. Now you have me thinking about it again! I will keep you posted!

  • I am praying they fake care of it and it fits great sitting down. I can say..I NEVER e er thought of sitting in the dress when trying them on.. When I had THOUGHT I had found THE DRESS..which i hadn't.. THEN I FOUND MY DRESS.. the owner of the salon told me to try the "SIT TEST"… I had no idea what she was talking about..AND I am soo glad I did..(it felt amazing).. Then I realized...I had never tried to sit in the other dress.. and the bridal consultant NEVER MENTIONED IT.. that isnt something you automatically think of doing.. That was another sign that I had found my dress and from the PERFECT PLACE.. I am sure u will be fine..and there is nothing wrong with getting a reception dress..

  • Aww Sister,
I'm praying that it all works out in your favor. My dress is the same way so I found a pre owned reception dress to be comforable in .

  • Thanks ladies! Your comments make me feel a lot better about my situation. They really need to tell people to do the sit test. I will post an update on Tuesday!

  • Awwww, I'm sure that everything will work out for you!!  Honestly, other than eating dinner because they made us (maybe 20 minutes) and for the garter retrieval (3 minutes or less), I don't recall sitting down at the wedding at all.  I wouldn't worry about buying another dress and I hope that everything goes wellSmile

If push comes to shove, buying a party dress for the reception would probably be your best bet, and it should be significantly cheaper!

  • Did you pull up the dress some around the lower thigh or knee area before sitting? Since its mermaid, you might want to try that. I read that on another board.
