    I just ordered min in 5in.  The "typical" top layer of a cake is 6in.

    5 or 6 inches should be sufficient, especially if you want the cake topper to stand out from the top layer. Sometimes the 3 to 4 in look like the are buried with the top layer especially if flowers or something else is on top of the top layer. Have you considered Crafty Eddy, he carves cake topper out of wood. You customize the cake topper in whatever letter(s) and fonts you want, he's very talented and extremely reasonable. You would just have to bling it out yourself. Ordered mine and ready to start blinging mine out

    I was wondering the EXACT same thing because I placed an order with CraftyEddie too.  He asked me what size did I want and I was speechless for a minute.  I opted a 5 in by 6 in 3 in 1 topper and it only cost $24.
