Lol, someone hand me the vaseline...

Just another reason why I love this board so much.  I tried to stay out of it, I swear.  I just don't like when someone is getting picked on.

@ empegues Reel it back in and put your earrings back on! LOL

Thats why I come and post on this board. Even when people may have less than popular ideas, this board knows how to offer constructive criticism and offer helpful suggestions instead of just bashing. And she's a first timer! Wow. The Knot can be really helpful I hope this doesn't turn her away. I'm lucky my local board is nice too.

I definitely feel you. I hate to see someone being jumped on by a group of Internet gangsters. I just always ask if these people weren't protected behind their computers and these questions were asked in a face to face open forum what the response would be. They would definitely not be rude like this. For some reason keyboards seem to give people courage that they don't have in life. And then I laugh at all of them screaming this and that about "etiquette" but I guess they chose to skip out on any etiquette that involves dealing with people daily. Their weddings will be grand, elegant, proper affairs with brides that suck as human beings and fail at life. At least they will have pretty pictures from all 4 of their weddings that ended in failed marriages because the guys they married couldn't stand to be around them for long. *Drops mic and exits stage left*

I never get what it is about having a small ceremony now, and then the celebration or "main" thing later that seems to bother some people. I have two friends that were married for a few years, then had a wedding ceremony or vow renewal (even though they didnt call it a vow renewal). Almost everyone knew they were married - none of the guests felt "deceived" or "lied to". I only started hearing about it being against etiquette when I joined TK and started lurking on some of those boards. SMH at those "ladies" - they're screaming etiquette, yet being rude all in the same breath

Those women were mean and there is no excuse for that.  Whatever reason the couple chose for getting married now and then celebrating with their family is up to them.  Etiquette's premise is to give guidance on being a gracious host/hostess.  Being mean in the name of etiquette is not being gracious.  Thank you empegues for offering advice to the bride who asked the original question.

This was actually funny.  I on the board a lot and tend to stay out of discussions once they turn this way.  Glad OP stood up for herself and empegues, nice for popping in there to set them straight.  The board isn't that bad though, at least they weren't during my wedding planning.

Yall are far more level headed though. Laughing

It just amazes me that people on some of these boards let absolute evil nonsense come out of their keyboards, but have the nerve to try and sway my opinion when I don't just follow along with the gang.

I'm not surprised anymore... they seem to genuinely like the mean girl scenarios.  But I swear I'm not going to touch those type of posts with a 10-foot pole from now on.

    Just thankful for this board!

What amazes me is that I see this argument a lot on other boards and their premise is that your friends and family will be sooooo upset that you lied. NO ONE is trying to lie. I have been to several weddings where they had a private ceremony earlier and bigger ceremony for the family at a later date. NO ONE CARES!!!!  If you love and support the couple getting married than you will not mind.

These ladies assume that everyone is trying to get as many gifts as they can. They put everyone in the same box. Pitiful!

Are you guys seriously surprised? The internet creates a forum for passive agressive people who generally wont have the (dare I say) "balls" to say any of the trash they talk to anyone's face.

I don't advocate arguing and fighting period. I'd just rather not waste my precious time, energy, or effort but arguing on the internet? Seriously.

    My advice? Stop responding.

Wow they went hard in the paint for no reason, there are a lot of people who have small ceremonies and then have a bigger one when they can afford it.  They already know that all that talk about lying and decieving was a load of bull they know!!!!!

They just need something to do

It always amazes me how rude and obnoxious people can be when hiding on the internet. Clearly she wanted advice not to be run off the board. That is crazy well at least someone stood up for her tried to give her an answer. There is a way to say things to people w/o coming off condescending.
