Venue Liability Insurance-Small Vent

Tell me there are lots of you out there that have to purchase this? I'm so frustrated and don't understand why a venue can't provide it??? Looks like the cheapest we will get is $325 for the extra liability insurance. UGH I was thinking $250, so it's not that big of a difference, but at this point, every dollar counts. My mom was quoted at $350 for $1 million coverage by her insurance agent. I just had FI go down to our's, and they quoted us at $325...not sure if that's for 1 million or the minimum $300K the venue requires. Either way, I guess we just have to suck it up and pay it.

Just frustrated and of course feeling the stress of everything else. Just tell me I'm not alone with the insurance!!! lol (Yes, we did wait until the last minute on this!)

  • What do you mean by liability insurance? I didn't have to do this but I'm wondering if I missed something.

  • I did not have to get it for my venue but its a super laid back place.  I have had to purchase it for the baby fair that I run though and that price sounds about right, unfortunately.  Some places definitely require you to have it on top of whatever coverage they have.  Both venues we have used for our 1 day event required us to carry it as well as a couple locations where we hang large advertising signs.

  • For us its insurance to cover if anyone damages the venue or is hurt at the venue and its not the venues fault, for the most part.

Yep, this. I was told you could extend your homeowner's coverage to this, but it doesn't seem to work that way. I figured it wouldn't for FI and I as we are renters, and it is actually going through a different insurance company altogether (our agent does work for 3-4 different companies). My mom checked with their HO insurance and it too would be a new policy.

  • I'll send my venue coordinator an email about this.  I would assume since they didn't mention it we don't need it, but I'm paranoid about this stuff and would want to make sure that we were all set if anything was to happen.

  • I have never heard of this before. I doubt we need it because no one ever mentioned it, so I'm not gonna worry about it.

  • If you are getting Liability Insurance, you should ask the venue for a copy of their policy so your's and their's does not overlap.  You don't want to pay for something else that is not needed.

Yea, it was in our initial contract, so I would assume if nobody brought it up, you shouldn't worry about it. See, I kind of figured not everyone needs this, so I don't really understand why our place needs it!! I mean I kind of do, but couldn't they just charge me the extra $300 and then I wouldn't have to worry about it?! I prefer one stop shopping lol

Penny, that's a good idea...I should have thought about it before!!! It's probably too late now, considering the venue needs proof in hand within the next 9 days. Darn!
