Name Change?

Hey Ladies,

As yall know, I just got hitched! :)

I hyphenated my name. But now I don't know...
Should I change my name at work to reflect my new hyphenated name or should I keep it the same?

To futher complicate things I plan on going back to school to get my doctorate in Psych soon and I'm not sure which name to use. I just don't want my clients to be able to search for me or find me. (Ive already had 2 stalker clients)

Sorry this was long, but what would you do?

Idk really...this is tough. With so much technology, they would be able to find at least some of your information if they really tried no matter what name you used professionally. Wouldn't they? I could be wrong.

I think the easiest and best thing to do is use one name. So since you're hyphenated I would change everything over so everything reflects your true legal name now. It's you. Both professionally and personally.

[QUOTE]Hey amberlynned... I say... keep your maiden name professionally for the reasons you stated... and on everything else use your married name or hypenated married name... Thats my vote...

This is how I voted once I sorted through my confusion.

Yes it gets very hard when you use one name for some things but another name for other things.  So I guess I am not understanding how the stalker thing fits in, (I'm slow I guess) But anyway I think you should hyphenate your name.

If your going to hyphenate it, then I think you should use that for everything. With so much technology these days, when people look up your maiden name or married name, they will more than likely still get you.

Does your DH care either way ?

I agree that you should use one name for everything, so I suppose that's the hyphenated name.  I also agree with the PPs that crazy, stalker clients will probably be able to track you down either way - so don't let their inappropriate behavior dictate what name you use at work.

    Thanks ladies!

    No DH does not care.

The logic behind using my maiden name is If I am Amber Smith and someone researches me online, they might not be able to get all of my information if I am regiestered everywhere as Amber Smith-Jones.

Or at least thats what I think...

I think I may just go professionally hyphenated. It is, after all, my new name :)
