Anybody jumpin' the broom?? (Literally!)

Okay ladies, it's a tradition we have all heard about but I really want to know if anybody else jumps the broom because I'm going to do it but IDK how to decorate my little ugly broom!! I want to make it look beautiful before jumping it!! Any suggestion or ideas??Thanks

I am! I'm so excited about it too! My mom got a broom from Hobby Lobby and my aunt is wrapping the handle in satin ribbon. Then she found some fuschia colored silk flowers that she is going to place cascading down the broom party. That is it! Fairly simple.

I feel like if its something you feel strong about then u should do it. If it were something I knew we special in our family I would do it...but its not... I decided to do the Unity Cross.. this is something I want to start for our family... that I can pass down to my children..

I'm starting the broom jumping. But the Unity cross I'm doing that as well and I'm not passing that down. It's going to stay in my house!

We jumped the broom and also had a Unity Cross Ceremony. Everyone loved the Unity Cross Ceremony since it was something they never saw before. I still get alot of compliments on the Unity Cross. 

I think what Nursing2U meant was that using the Unity Cross Ceremony will be a tradition as she will pass the Idea down to her kids and other generations to follow. Somthing that will begin with her and continue to be passed down as a tradition. @Mari:  I think that's a wonderful tradition. I plan on doing the same as well. The unity cross has so much meaning. They even give you a small scroll that comes with it for you to read after the wedding. That's what we did. Very touching!

K..I think that's great to have some going from the past ur using for the present and then something to pass on for the future.... cha....EXACTLY!!! We don't have anything that I've found That was done in the past that we continued... SOOO... the unity cross symbolizes everything that's important to us and is important for us to pass on to our children and so on..

Im late to the covo, but we are not doing the broom ( FI dont like th history) but having a three cords cermony. Its our theme and we hope to bring a new tradition as pp have said.

We are jumping the broom and having it placed by the Grandmothers to symbolize the two families becoming one family.  I have read the history of this time honored tradition and although it may have been a part of slavery, it is a part of our culture and our history.  We will have our broom decorated by my daughter, it is something she offered to do and is very excited to be contributing.  We will have the Unity candle lit by family members at the start of the ceremony and toward the end of the ceremony we are having the sand ceremony for my daughter, my fiance and myself to unite the 3 of us and we are presenting her with a necklace.
