Stressed About Invitations! UGH! Vent...Kinda long

So as my previous post said one of my friends who is a graphic designer volunteered to design our wedding invitations as a wedding gift. Great! So I thought! We met back in the first week of June which would give her plenty of time to design something since our wedding isn't until October 23, 2010. Well it took her over two month to design something and I finally got to see a design this past Sunday with final design emailed to me last night afer a couple minor color changes.

She had been doing all the research on paper, envelopes and printing. So I'm thinking she had everything under control and I would have my invitations by next week with the possibility it would be the end of August before I got them. I planned on getting them addressed and sent out before I go on vacation to Florida from September 4-12.

Well she sends me a frantic email today saying that it takes two weeks for the paper/envelopes to come in and then it will be another couple days for printing. WHAT?! I was so frustrated that she didn't get all this clarified the last two and half months so we could have ordered them in plenty of time. I called paperzone immediately to get them ordered and now they are saying they can't order one of the envelopes in the size and color that I need.

To say the least, I'm a bit stressed! My invitations will probably not get out to about 6 weeks exactly before our wedding.

Sounds like you have a choice. Change your colors and papers or be OK with them going out 6 weeks before the wedding.

Can you get some of the "pre" work done-- like print all the address labels, or whatever?

Did you send Save the Dates? If so, wedding invites 6 weeks before should be fine.

sounds like a first time DIY'er.. cuase i ran into all those problems... and yeah i had to adjust what paper i used in order to get them done in time (mines 10/18) and i just mailed mines monday (not to stress you out). Agree that you should try to get labels ready/buy stamps and get as much done before hand.  will you have to do a lot of cutting for the invites/inserts? that would take some time.  but printing should not.
and yes six weeks is totally fine, so don't stress too much.

Have you looked for envelopes at Paper Source in Bellevue? They have sooooooo many envelopes and things in many different colors. I love that place.

Thanks ladies, that is a good idea of having all the prep work done before hand so I can just stuff and go. Printers are doing everything as far as cutting the invitations/inserts which is a big relief. I did send out STD to everyone on our list, so I'm trying to make myself be okay with it going out 6 weeks before the wedding.

Irshis, I'll check in to Paper Source.

If you sent STDs out, then I wouldn't stress about only sending them 6 weeks in advance.  Due to some delays we sent ours 7 weeks in advance vs. the 8 I wanted, but we also sent STDs months prior so I wasn't too stressed.

And FWIW, I don't think giving our guests nearly a month to RSVP helped anyway.  We didn't receive half our RSVPs back.  So that's my other advice to you: don't waste your money on putting stamps on the RSVP envelopes.  As Emily Posts' granddaugther stated, it actually isn't part of proper wedding etiqutte.  The guests can affix their own 44 cent stamp to mail back the RSVP.

Aww, I'm sorry. I hate relying on other people to do stuff b/c they never do it the way you want it! I'm total bridezilla on my invites right now.

On another note, did you ever have your trial meeting w/ Nika the makeup artist?

@tygirljojo, I was wondering about the whole stamping of the response envelopes. I did remember reading other peoples post and how annoyed they were that people didn't even use the reply card, so they ended up spending lots of money for no reason. Thanks for that reminder!

@enlightened1, My trial with Nika is on September 18, I'll let you know how it goes. I can't wait!

Good luck with this! If you sentt he STD you should be fine. People are aware of it coming. Hope everything works out!
