Hand Cancelling

For those who already sent your invitations off did you get them hand cancelled? If you didn't did your invites turn up in good shape?

Re: Hand Cancelling

  • I had my hand cancelled. They turned out great. I didn't want them to be smooshed in a machine. The lady at the post office suggested it when I bought my stamps.

  • I didn't and mine turned out fine. I guess it also depends on how thick your invites are too. I wish I had known about that. No one suggested that, but its done now.
  • Uh what is hand cancelled

  • Rather than running your item through the machine they use the stamp so it's by hand. Sometimes for thicker invitations the machine can rip the invites up so it's saver to have it hand cancelled.
  • Ahh ok thanks

I definitely did this just the other day. By the way the lady at the post office talked she made it seem like my invitations may not go out right away but the next day a friend called and told me she had gotten her invitation already. I have just a handful to do today of those I didn't have right addressees on and I'm done. It was funny because a second post lady was all into wanting to hear about my invitations and such because she told me her sister is getting married shortly after we do. She was cool so anything. I can do to get them to treat my invitations with care can't hurt! Plus I am mailing out my invitation to the White House today.

  • So how do you go about hand cancelling? Is there a specific request that you do at the Post Office?

<div>I was actually in my local post office and asked about this and they looked at me like I was crazy. After I explained what it was to them. They said, if someone is not using their stamp at the time, I could borrow it and go off to the side and cancel my envelopes myself. She went out to say that normally only a postal officer should be allowed to use the stamp. So it sounded like they would let me do it if I stayed within their sight. I have actually been meaning to go into another post office to see what they say. So it seems like things vary from post office to post office since most of the girls on here seem to have no problem with this. </div>

  • My post office charged more so I didn't do it. I mailed myself one before I sent them out just to make sure it held up okay and it looked fine.

  • I guess it depends on which post office you go to. They were happy to do it for me. No charge.

  • I had my invitations hand-canceled as well for no charge.  The postal worker just handed me the stamp to get busy...lol

  • I just mailed mine... Didn't even know what hand canceled was. My invites weren't that fancy though. Just from Vista Print, but I haven't gotten any complaints about them being smashed.
  • Mine were hand cancelled, but the post office did that because I had to pay a surchage for the bulge from the ribbon tie..
