Shoes in the Sand, Pants on the Ground

OK, after watching 4 Weddings I'm wondering if I should provide guests w/flip flops for my beach ceremony. I thought just including on the invite would garner the thought of wearing beach appropriate shoes. I do want it to be a formal brunch event and would not like inappropriate casual dress, I wont be allowing those folk not dressed appropriately in.

Should I put formal/ semi formal on the invite and provide wet wipes and flip flops for guests or put a disclaimer of some nature in reference to the dress code on our website and have the invite reference checking the site for appropriate attire.

TIA

Is your reception also on the beach? I went to a beach wedding recently in Jamaica and most guests wore beach appropriate footwear. Most of the women wore wedge sandals or dressy flat sandals and cute sun dresses. The guys wore slacks and "mandals". The reception was under a tent that had a floor installed on the sand. I think most people will dress appropriately for a wedding. I would make sure that all of the guests were aware that it is a beach ceremony.

ETA: What do you mean by formal attire? Do you want everyone in evening /cocktail dresses and suits? If so, you may want to rethink your ceremony location, especially since your wedding will occur during the daytime. Beach weddings are wonderful but sand is everywhere and people are not going to want to ruin expensive shoes and clothing.

The ceremony will take place on the beach but the reception will be indoors in a ballroom. By semi formal I actual want people dressed up  (not long ball gowns but at least cocktail). I think I may start the flip flop hunt

Old navy has the $1 flip flop sale twice a year, I think the first sale is in May. If you plan to go take a few ppl with you because I think there is a limit on how many pair per person you can buy. The best part is you can get them in your wedding colors! They can use them as "dancing" shoes for the reception also.
