Slight Setback and Advice Needed

So, we were all set to make a deposit for our venue. I e-mailed the person in charge, who we've been communicating with for a little while now, asking if we could come by this weekend to make the deposit and sign papers. We want to book the venue for February 20, 2011. She tells me they aren't taking any bookings for 2011!

Uh, what?
Hello?
How does your mind change within, like, three weeks?

I'm TOTALLY disappointed.

We've checked out a couple of other places, but have decided to waaaaaay scale back our budget, so the other two options for us worked before, but are now out of our budget.

Do you have any recommendations for a venue? Here's my ideal criteria:
  • $2000 Fee MAXIMUM.
  • Prefer outside catering.
  • Within 45 minutes of Seattle.
  • Small, not too big (about 50 - 65 guests)
  • Can do both ceremony and reception.
  • Indoors, Sunday Afternoon wedding.
I'm cool with having to rent tables, chairs, linens, etc, because I already have them budgeted. But I don't know what to do!!!

Help!

When I last checked Tyee charges 1500 for Sunday, but that includes chairs and tables and such. The do require onsite catering though, but the food is really good. In winter they also wave their food and beverage minimum.

Yes, we were. We had been out there to see it, and I had just e-mailed her a few weeks ago to let her know that were still interested but were waiting to secure the deposit money. Ugh. I'm frantically googling right now.

And actually, as I Google Tyee, do you mean Tyee Yacht Club?

Check out Clise Mansion in Redmond.  That was on our short list of possibilities (we ended up going with The Lake Union Cafe) and it sounds like our budget/wedding size are pretty similar.  Sunday afternoon in February has a site rental fee of $750 (for part of the mansion)... $1275 for the entire mansion (which you may want to consider for an indoor ceremony - using the billiards room for the ceremony and the great room for the reception).

However, Clise does not allow outside catering.

Shoot, I forgot about that.  Probably because they had a variety of preferred caterers...

Landmark Event Center in Des Moines http://www.landmarkcelebrations.com/pricingavailability.html Sunday pricing looks pretty doggone good and includes tables and chairs if I recall correctly.

There's also The Landmark in Tacoma, but I don't know their pricing.

I just read your guest count size.  You could also look at Heirtage Hall in Kirkland which would comfortably fit 50.  http://www.ci.kirkland.wa.us/depart/parks/Facility_Rentals/Heritage_Hall.htm

Another is Lytle House in Bothell: http://www.ci.bothell.wa.us/CityServices/ParksAndRecreation/ParksSportsfieldsAndFacilities.ashx?p=1278

There's also Legion Hall in Everett: http://www.everettwa.org/default.aspx?ID=460

And Pritchard Island Bath House in Seattle: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/Reservations/Pritchard.htm

And last I can think of is the Grand Dining Hall at St Edwards state park: http://www.parks.wa.gov/dayuseplaces/ They say 50 people can fit, I've heard the room could fit more than that, but apparently they only state 50 due to fire code in an old building or something?

I read some very bad reviews on the Clise Mansion on another wedding site.  When I called to ask about their availability I brought that up and they were really snotty about it.

I always reccomend my venue, Swans Trail Chapel in Snohomish. They are super great to work with, under $2000, you can use your own caterer, bring your own alcohol and include all tables, chairs, some linens, etc...

I've only read one bad review about Clise, posted on several wedding Web sites. Clise is my venue, and they've been pretty great to work with so far. We're still several months away, but I like how they include all tables and chairs, you get use of several rooms and grounds, and the referrals for different vendors have been really helpful. Regarding catering, Clise ONLY allows outside catering (they don't have their own catering department), though you have to choose from 8 caterers that have proven themselves. The caterers are great (the Mansion had a showcase recently, where we got to taste food from all of the caterers), and they span a range in cost.

I really like the Clise Mansion and the Robinswood house. The only reason I didn't check them out is because you don't get the facility for the entire day. I really want a place that focuses on my wedding for the entire day....
