Trash the Dress

Have any of you ladies considered doing a trash the dress shoot? I'm about 80% sure that I want to do it, but I can't help but be a little nervous about ruining my dress. I don't have plans on trying to keep my dress and passing it down to my hypothetical daughter (let's be honest, she's not going to want it), so I don't know why I'm so hesitant. Maybe because I spent so much money on the dress to only wear it once then possibly ruin it, but the shots that I could get would be so worth it!!!

What do y'all think? Are you going to do it?

Re: Trash the Dress

  • It truly makes no sense to me, but you have to do what makes you happy.
  • I don't like getting dirty.....so no for me!

  • It's a no for me. My mom bought my dress and I don't think she would be too happy if I ran through some dirt with it. I will have my dress preserved, if no one wears it after me that's fine but atleast it will be there as an option. I was actually upset at my mom for throwing away her dress. She didn't have it preserved so it got all discolored. But I would have actually liked to have taken something off the dress and make it a part of mine even if it meant sewing it on one of the layers. She had a blue velvet ribbon her dress also, that could have been my something blue....

  • I personally don't understand the concept, is a bride *trashing* her life as a single woman? what?  to be honest I wouldn't do it if I did get it.  I do have a daughter and even if she doesn't want it (and I wouldn't expect her to) my trash could be some other bride's treasure.   I got my dream dress from a newlywed (and I could not have afforded it otherwise at full cost).  So I'm kind of a fan of   brides considering recycling their dresses, designers wouldn't be able to charge a damn arm and a leg if brides simply had more options.   not directed at you particularly op, wedding expenses period raise my pressure.  um, what was the question? LOL!!

I'm not doing it, as my dress is being made into a quilt. However, if that's something you what to do, I support you.

  • No, I'm not going to do it.  Like PP said, my mother is also paying for my gown and I don't think she would appreciate spending all that $$$ only to have me ruin it,no matter how beautifully artistic the pictures come out. lolz. Besides, I am super sentimental and I just don't think I could bring myself to destroy my gown. I will probably hold on to it for a little while before selling it.

From my understanding it is supposed to symbolize that your marriage to your husband will last forever so you will never need a wedding dress again.... so you trash it.  The 1st time I had ever heard of it/saw it was when the woman Trish from clean house got married and she did a trash the dress shoot.  I thought it was an awesome idea and she got some amazing shots but I know its not for me. My mom gifted me the dress and I know she would KILL me if I tried to trash it lol.

Oh I didn't know thats what it symbolized. My friends did "Rock the dress sessions"  that included their husbands and they did really get dirty they basically had a photo shoot at unusual places you wont get to take pictures at on your wedding day... the carnival.... downtown...

FI & I are doing one the day after so we can get all the pictures we want without a rush.

And I loooovvveeee photo shoots so yes please!

I want to do this but my daughter is begging me to keep it for her. If she's anything like me when the time comes, she'll want her own to match the current styles and then I will have saved it for nothing. For right now, I'm happy just putting it back on from time to time.....lol. We'll see what happens. Definitely won't be trashing it though.
