Kinda Wedding Related- Royal Caribbean and all Cruisers

Hey gals!

I hope my review here will help someone during their honeymoon or vacation planning process. I just went on a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas for my birthday and wanted to share my review.

I left from Port Canaveral on the Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas which stopped in Coco Cay and Nassau, Bahamas. Let me say I had a blast because of the group I went with, however , I would never sell on that boat again.

Pros: Very cheap for the 5 days we each paid $420 for an interior cabin room, very friendly and helpful staff, the drinks were reasonably priced

Cons: The boat was old and outdated and didn't have many of the things that Royal Caribbean advertises may be available on their cruises. I've cruised before and by comparison the food was not as good (not fresh, low variety, gaps where food was unavailable). In addition, one of my friends and I both broke out in rashes without a direct cause, the only thing we did the same was sleep in the beds and use the water.  They had very limited quality activities during the day at sea.

My advice is to really research the ship you are sailing on before getting on a cruise. Not all cruises are created equal!

HTH someone

Wow you read my mind.  I was looking at cruises today.  I think actually the same one you just went on.  I just gonna let FI pick the honeymoon spot.

I am in love with Royal Caribbean, but I only will do newer ships.  The newer ships have what they advertise.  I am afraid of being dissappointed by going on an older ship, so I don't go.  Ok, I act like I cruise on the regular, but I don't.  lol.

Kim, I have read great reviews of Royal Caribbean's newest ship Allure of the Seas.  Check it out.  That was going to be our original honeymoon, but FI isn't a cruiser, so I didn't go with it.

I cruised with Royal Carribean in 2007.  Can't remember the name of the ship, but it was brand new and it was a Tom Joyner cruise so everything was top notch.  So sorry you had such a troubling experience (beds and water).  I agree with doing one's research.  DH won't set foot on a ship after all the drama with people getting sick last year.

so I have heard not so great things about royal c. I heard they dont have a lot of FUN stuff to do.  I heard Carnival is fun. I went on a carnival cruise twice and had a blast. BUT I heard there are so many much nicer ship lines out there. Do your research...

I have cruised with Carnival before and it was much much nicer! They had way more variety with stuff to do and eat. I definetly think that on a newer boat this cruise would've been the bomb but even the crew gave us the real deal and said it was the worst ship they had. I think most people get suckered because its so cheap.
Norwegian and Disney cruises have the best ratings but those prices!

vfriday you know anything Tom Joyner does is going to be exceptional!

I'll be cruising with Norwegian for my HM. Cruise Critic was a great resource when researching who I should cruise with.

I think it does depend on the ship as well.  My fiance and I took a RC cruise to Italy last year on Voyager of the Seas and it was a really beautiful ship.  I haven't been on the oasis/allure of the seas yet but I have heard they are really nice.  The only issue I have with those two ships is that you are paying about a grand to be on those ships and the itinerary is still in the carribbean and we went to italy for about that much.  You can go to the carribbean for a lot less than that.  I went on a Carnival cruise before and I feel that the RC ships are nicer and have more things to do but you will pay more for it too.
