Usher vs Hostess??

This might be a silly question but what is the difference between an usher and a hostess? Do they do the same thing or are the roles different? Right now I have two ushers to hand out programs at the ceremony but I'm wondering if I need a hostess also. I have a sorority sister who wants to help with the wedding and I'm thinking about making her a hostess but I'm not sure what her duties would be since I already have 2 ushers.

If you're using both an usher and a hostess for your wedding, what are you having them do? Thanks ladies!

I think by definition a usher helps people find seat and may even personally escort some individual down the aisle, can do programs, and ushers are usually the ones that will pull out the aisle runner

a hostess greets people and can do programs

both can direct people to restroom and such

I only have hostesses but they will be acting as ushers in some respects and helping people find seat, making sure that babies are taken to reception hall, and handing out programs.

I consider them too be the same.
 I have 2 hostess and 2 Ushers. 1 Hostess and the 2 ushers for the ceremony. My hostess is like 20 and my Ushers are 12 and 13 so the hostess will great and durect the ushers. For the reception I have a 15 year old hostess who will help people get their place cards and find their table if they need help.

I'm having both. 2 Ushers, and 3 hostess.The ushers are typically for escorting the female guest to their seats. Also as Monretta mentioned,Usheres pull the aisle runner. The hostess usually greet guest, hand out programs, & answer questions guest may have.... I personally have been a hostess 3 times. You have to be a patient, outgoing, approachable person. So if your girlfriend is this type, then she fits the bill.
