I would love to work from home....

I mixture of both. I would like to stay home while my child is a baby and then when he or she goes to school I would start a small business. This way I maintain my independence but I'm still available to volunteer at school functions and I'm home when the child comes home from school.

This exactly!  But if I had to choose one or the other, I'd choose a SAHM.

I would love to be a SAHM, but I would probably open a cake business from home, so I would still have something to do and it could be something I love.

Right now, work. I have a hard time being in the house all day unless I'm sick or tired. But when I start having kids, I may change my mind.

It is my dream to be a stay at home mom for at least the first 5 years since when it comes to development those can be the most critical.

Wow, that's a loaded question. My dad raised me to be independent and I struggle internally with independence and real life. I want to work but now that I'm old enough to understand the real responsibility of motherhood I would love to be home for the first three years for my children. Then I think about how public schools are being targeted nowadays and even though I live in a beautiful suburb of NewJersey with a blue ribbon public school I would prefer to send my children to private school which can be upwrds of 25k per year, which means I'd have to work. Catch 22!

Hmmm...I would love more flexibility in my career, but wouldn't want to stay at home completely. Maybe working half a day or having the type of career that would allow me to work 3 days a week would work for me.
