Playing the waiting game

Ladies,

My wedding is June 11th 2011. I have my dress but it needs alterations. My mother told me to wait until January to start the alterations process. I found some really pretty decor that i want to use for the reception and my sister is telling me I should wait closer to January near MLK holiday for the sales. Here is my thing, if I wait until January for every got dern thing what the heck do I do now? Nothing lol. I have 5 freaking months until January. I don't see the purpose in waiting for every dag on thing else. Venues are in place, guest list is pretty much set (almost lol). What is there to do in the mean time? Twittle my thumbs???

Am I being irrationale or just anxious or am I thinking correct to want to get this crap moving?

I wouldn't wait, but that's just me. If I am able to do something now I usually go for it. If you wait for everything you may find yourself stretched in too many directions and feeling stress that could have been avoided. I

Have you booked your florist, entertainment, photographer, baker, transportation, hotel room blocks, stationary vendors, accessories, wedding bands, gifts, honeymoon, favors, etc?

If so, I'm sure the rest of us could come up with some things to fill your time.

Well I am doing my floral arrangements myself but I wanted to try and create some of my centerpieces as a first look. Im working on all these other things as we speak. Talking with dj's and looking at photogs and I think I have them narrowed down lol. Honeymoon is a check but no flight arrangements for that as of yet. I can book off hotel blocks though for guests coming from out of town, that's a good one.

@ HisSparklett that's exactly what I am trying to avoid. Ill just continue to work with some of the smaller items.

I would get done everything I could in advance.  No telling if something will happen to delay your alterations or when the MLK sale hits the stuff you want might be gone.  I'm a planner though, and I like to get things done well in advance so I don't have such a long list of "to dos" in my head.

If you are already this far ahead, sitting still would drive you crazy. Do what you feel is best and it seems that it would mean moving forward.

That makes three of us!!  I am a planner as well, and I have a excel spreadsheet of all my to do's and check them off as I go.  January will be here very quickly and you don't want to be bogged down with a bunch of things at once.  The smaller things seem to be what will drive you crazy.  if you get those out the way, you will have less to do next year.

Get as much stuff done now as you can girl. I am planning my 2nd wedding right now and I'm not getting married until July 2011. I already have cake, photographer, dress (picked and deposit paid), reception venue, and I'm interviewing florists now. I say if you see something you like now get it. From my 1st wedding experience I waited to get a lot of stuff and missed out on it. Do what YOU feel is best it's your wedding and since it really falls on you I say get it done early and you can focus on the small details when it gets closer to your date.

I'd kick it until January...except for DIY things that you know you will absolutely not change your mind on. I was an eager beaver and bought stuff early (I was in your position a year ago) and didn't use a lot of it.

Enjoy the freedom of no stress and knowing that you are on your game.

Okay all of you are providing lots of positive feedback so I really appreciate it.  I think I will do a combination of both and I say that primarily because my fiance and I are also in the market to buy a home. I just think it's going to be soooooo much at one time it's going to drive me insane. I think ultimately what i want to do is create the look so I can get a couple of different samples of what I want and then I will have the general idea together. That will keep me from sitting around twiddling my thumbs in anticipation.

Great idea! Samples also allow you to marinate on ideas. My husband and I moved into our house 2 months before our wedding and it was crazy trying to pack and make sure all the wedding stuff I created didn't get damaged/lost.

Thank you for that last comment as well. I am glad to know I am not the only insane woman trying to pull of two miracles in less than 9 months lol.

My cousin and I had a great conversation yesterday so I think it's going to be really helpful in the end.
