Have any of you dealt with this?

Fi is a huge basketball fan.  Ever since the trade where Lebron joined Wade, along with Bosh, he's become a huge heat fan.  When the heat were doing well in the first half he was hailing King James and all that Jazz. I messed around and called him Lebrick cause he's a choker in the clutch of a game.  He got very upset with me and said we would have a falling out if I called him Lebrick again.  I just laughed cause I think FI is just a bandwagon fan. When we met he was originally a Celtic fan. Well Heat ended up giving away a 24 pint lead to lose the game to the Magic.  FI was HEEEEEAAAATTTED! All I could do was laugh.  We were about to log off and I said I love you and he was like I love u still but now despises the Heat and is returning to the Celtics.

I write all of this to ask, do any of your FI's take sports waaaay to seriously.  I mean he's now saying how he HATES the Heat and he now hates my city Miami ( I dont like it either for my own reasons). All I could do is laugh.

What have been your experiences with FI's and sports?

Guuuuuurrrrrrllllll! We live in South Carolina, and FI is the HUGEST Gamecocks fan EVER! He got this tacky a$$ flag flying IN THE FRONT YARD, bumper stickers, license tags, key chains, half his freaking wardrobe and I made the mistake of letting him pick the wedding colors and they are (you guessed it) burgundy and black the FRIGGIN Gamecock's colors (although he says that's not why he picked those colors). We also have Clemson here, so (as a joke) I bought him a Clemson shirt, thinking he would get a good laaugh out of it, but ohhhhhhhhh noooooooo, I had to sit through a 45 minute lecture on why the Gamecock's are so much better than the Tiger's ( I could give a flip either way lol). And of course that shirt is buried some where in the back of his closet. My bad, vent over. I have learned to tune him out and not discuss college football with him, he gets too emotional about  it lmao!

my FI has been a die hard knicks fan since birth and is now uber excited about the melo trade. i wouldnt say he takes it too seriously, although he often will hurry home bc the game is on.  but yeah, something about sports gets them so focused.  i

Mine is like this as well, especially for soccer (he's Hispanic), and don't let me talk about his teams or the fact that he purchased our dish network package based on the number of channels he could watch soccer on....smdh.

My FI is from North Jersey but can't stand any of the home teams: The Knicks, The Nets, The Jets nor the The Giants so don't even talk to him when they win. He want all of em to go down lmao.

Thankfully I don't challenge him about any of them so I could careless but other people do and when they do he is going for their head.

Well...my FI is a die hard NY Giants fan, a LA Lakers Fan and a Dallas Mavericks fan {only b/cof his name} so yes I have to deal with "game time" but i am going to handle this in 2 ways

    1. go into another room and watch girly tv and let him have his manly time
    2. join in on the excitement, cook up some snacks and make a party of it lol

LOLOL! Its true about going for their head.  I mean had we been together and I would have talked smack about the Heat he probably would have had my head.  He was very intense vis MSN messenger.  Was about to toss the PC and he was at work!

Oh goodness....exactly! He bought a beer & some snacks for the first game Melo played with the Knicks. Smh....lol.

I'm no basketball fan, but during football season, we are enemies. I'm a Skins fan (yes I said it & don't judge me) & FIs a Giants fan. For non-football fans, they're in the same division. But I'm the one who usually has to take a break if I'm pissed at the game before I break something!

FI is a SPORTS fan period. I have watched every sport within the past 3 years. With the phillies going to the world series and playoffs 3 years in a row and the the flyers going to the (whatever the hockey championship game is called) I have had my share of sports. I am also forced to listen to sports talk radio at night. This is TMI but I have made love to ESPN radio waaaaay too many times. FI isn't a bandwagon fan but he is a sports lover and it gets on my nerves. We sat in the car last week outside of a store listening to an interview with the eagles owner, if I would have allowed it, we would've been in the car for 30 more minutes to listen to people call in and comment on the interview. I can go on and on about FI addiction to sports talk radio.

FI loves sports, but specifically the Detroit basketball/football teams.  But he'll still watch almost any NFL or NBA game that comes on TV.  Luckily he doesn't have the NBA League Pass package on his cable anymore, b/c if he did I think we'd be watching games constantly!

I happen to like basketball and football, so we watch the games together - it actually is a fun experience for us.

My FI also listens to sports talk radio (Detroit sports talk radio).  He also calls into the shows to express his opinion. LOL!

FI is an athlete and played soccer professionally for a few years, also went to college on a soccer scholarship - so you can take a guess as to what his favorite sport is lol. He also ran track and played basketball. His favorites are 1. Soccer 2. Basketball 3. American football. I actually enjoy soccer and baskeball, so I sometimes watch with him, but there's only so much sports talk and tv I can take! We usually compromise - I'll watch with him when there's a big game on and he'll watch some of my girly shows with me, even though he rolls his eyes and makes sarcastic comments the entire time lol.

@ Sadou, I feel you on the heats/magic game - we watched that last night as well. I can't stand Lebron, especially after that "the decision" mess. I was glad when they lost. FI is a Lebron fan, but claims he is a winner either way as he lived in Orlando for several years

FI and I are both huge into sports.  We share a love for most sports, especially college football.  When it comes to Ohio State football, I'm that guy.

But he's more into men's college basketball than I am, and he takes this to a whole 'nother level.  He loves the University of Cincinnati Bearcats...he's still mad at the former school president for forcing out the basketball coach six years ago.  He will not even converse when their games are on, he has to intently listen as well as watch.  He also follows everything about them religiously.  He also hates Xavier (their in-town rival) with a passion and avoids even wearing their colors.  When they were in the Sweet Sixteen the last time (I think it was the last time), he got really mad when Xavier extended the game into overtime and slammed his hands down in fury.

My FI is a baseball freak. We live in Chicago and he is a huge Cubs fan. Majority of his spring and summer wardrobe has some type of Cubs logo on it. I can't stand when spring training starts because he ties up the TV. When we went to pay the deposit for our venue the lady there was a huge Cubs fan also. They spent an hour talking about baseball and the Cubs, before she even talked to me about why we were there.

OK  I have to admit... I am the sports fan.  He is too.. but me more.  We are huge NY Giants fan. Yeah we live in Houston, but I grew up in NYC and he grew up in New Jersey.  I am also a HUGE  HUGE Univ of Florida fan as that is where I graduated.  We have a game room (I refuse to call it a man cave).  I have decorated it with NY Giant and Gator stuff.  I even put NY Giants and Gator stuff on our registry..LOL!!!!  Maaaaan I would be sooooo happy to get some more stuff for my game room.  OHHHH did I mention that the Univ of Florida won the basket ball SEC championship and the NCAA final four is here in Houston.  MAAAANNNN!!! if they make the final four and come to HOUSTON.... Ohhh I am too excited to even think about it.
